Not sure if my party visited on an off day, but today the marinara sauce was over loaded with black pepper. My wife and her friend were unable to eat their dishes due to the overwhelming black pepper. Red sauce pasta like spaghetti and meatballs is not supposed to be served spicy hot. I ordered the chicken parm. In addition to the black pepper issue, the chicken was sliced so thin all I tasted was the bread crumbs, mozzarella, and the marinara. It was thinner than the space between my fork prongs. On a high note the restaurant looked amazing and the staff were all friendly and attentive. The prices were decent $64 for two lunch dishes, one appetizer, one side salad, and two sweet teas. Not sure if I will go back as there are better options available… If I do I will update my review.
My daughter and I tried lunch today. Again the spaghetti with meat balls was too spicy for her to eat. I tried the veal rossini which was bland, soggy, and chewy for veal. But the vegetable soup was really good. The service was also not great at the 2:30. We ordered got our dishes and did not see the waiter until it was time for our check....
Read moreThe service was great and the atmosphere was really nice! Fresh bread was brought to the table and it was clearly homemade (although it could use a little more salt).
We ordered 1 calzone and 1 stromboli. The calzone was fine! I made it a bite or two into the stromboli before I realized the inside was luke-warm. The shredded cheese below the top layer was still in shredded-form (not melted) and that wasn't a huge deal to me. But then I realized after a few more bites that I was eating raw dough. The outside was nice and brown, but the inside was almost entirely raw. If I had to guess, it was cooked too quickly at a high temp.
I put the rest in a box and brought it home. After airfrying the leftovers, the cheese got nice and melty but the dough is still gooey and I had to toss it out. The second pic is after air frying it at home. I pinched the dough to try and show the texture - that's not cheese.
I'm sure this was a one-off, but I'm still disappointed. I'll get pasta next time and will update...
Read moreI heard about this place from a co-worker. I decided to try it. I'm leary of Italian restaurants with me being Sicilian it's hard to find real authentic Italian food in Tuscaloosa. The server who waited on me was excellent (Alexis). I asked about the menu and she gave me her feedback on what other patrons have liked and ordered. I started out with the minestrone soup. That was good. The bread is real good. So I ordered veal parmigiana and I was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED! It was a frozen veal pattie with mozzarella cheese melted on it. The spaghetti sauce was very watery and bland. I tried the canolli which was OK. My suggestion is if you're going to open up an Italian restaurant anywhere make sure the food is authentic. There should be someone in the kitchen that is Italian if you're going to serve Italian food!!! I might give this place 1 more try if not I can go to Olive Garden and get something with a little bit more flavor. Still not authentic but I think it is better than what I...
