I really have a hard time believing that all of these rave reviews are real. I give honest reviews and expect others to do the same. Even though friends had mixed reviews, we decided to "support Tuscumbia businesses" anyway. We went for lunch at about 1:35 pm, ordered a half salad and burger, a received the food at 2:25pm (I know this because we were giving them 5 more minutes before we left). All of this with the manager sitting a table away in the corner doing paperwork, completely oblivious to the situation, and the bartender exhibited the same behavior. A man came in and sat at the bar (where we were seated)at about 2 pm, ordered, received, ate, paid for his lunch, and left long before we received our food! Now for the food. Unfortunately, it wasn't any better than the service. The salad was soggy and just tasted old. It was suppose to come with dressing on the side, but didn't. We asked for two sides of dressing and were charged for one of them without being asked. The burger was the crabmeat sauce topped burger. It was extremely greasy, lukewarm and pretty much just fell apart on the plate. Do 2 tablespoons of crab sauce make it a $12 burger? No. The home fries were cold and dumped haphazardly on the plate. So disappointed! Tuscumbia is a hard town to crack. Many locals have a tendency to not support local businesses. I hope things improve, or your success will be short-lived. One last thought, is anyone bothered by the utensils being placed in a jar on the table? This is a health hazard and I can't believe the health department didn't catch it. Imagine someone with a cold picking one fork, then putting it back...then the next person who takes a fork...you get the idea. Also the utensils are touching the inside of the jar...is it a clean jar? Who knows? Rolling utensils into napkins isn't just for a nice presentation, it's for sanitary...
Read moreWe were really looking forward to having breakfast here; as a couple locals recommended them as a great spot for breakfast.
When we first walked in, we were greeted with a damp, musty smell. I’m sure the building is old, but our first impression was not a good one. The hostess was not very friendly at all and we were sat in a booth near the kitchen.
After telling the server we had never been there before, she made a few recommendations. My girls wanted pancakes; so we ordered the supercake off the kids’ menu.
My husband ordered one of the omelets the server recommended and I ordered the French toast with bacon.
The food took awhile, and when it came it was almost like they spent too much time on the presentation of the plate rather than the quality of the food. The supercake (which we were wrong for assuming was going to be some sort of superhero pancake) was really small and REALLY dense. It was smaller than a teacup saucer. It was thick and hard and not very good at all. My girls are good eaters, but even they complained that their pancake was not “yummy.” My husband’s hash browns were not actually hash browns; they were more like breakfast potatoes… small cube-like and fried. His omelette had burnt sausage in it and it was not very flavorful at all. He said his toast wasn’t even very good.
My French toast tasted like it was loaded with butter- not light and fluffy as you would expect. My bacon was cold.
We did not address our concerns with our server- she asked how things were before we had a chance to try anything. The only time she came back was to drop off our check. We didn’t think complaining about the food would do much good at this point- we tried our best to choke some of it down. Now we’re off to try and find some...
Read moreI hesitated to give a poor review as I was super excited about this new endeavor in Tuscumbia. I took 2 friends to dinner last Saturday evening and was terribly disappointed. Our server was very sweet but: We ordered 3 appetizers to try a variety . The Waffle Sandwich ($12)was decent The Catfish bites ($9) were just Ok with a a good hot honey sauce. The issue was that half of the fish bites were undercooked. Not a fun thing when eating catfish. We are fried catfish connoisseurs in our area. The Southern Egg Rolls ($10)with fried chicken, Mac n cheese and greens were boring and tasted like an over fried sweet dough. There was even powdered sugar. I could not get even a hint of the smoked greens flavor The appetizers came AFTER our entrees. No explanation.... We had no utensils on the table until 5 minutes after our entrees came I paid $20 for The Riddler, meatloaf cupcakes. This is 4 little meatloafs in cupcake papers topped with mashed potato, a maple drizzle and candied bacon. Once I got a fork, I was hoping for something unique and delicious. The meatloaf was ok. The potatoes were ok. The Maple glaze was a failure in my opinion. It was colored bright red and covered everything on my plate. It may have red hots in it?? I’m not sure but it was terrible and did nothing to enhance the dish and made the bacon pieces soggy . By the way, that is all you get for $20. No sides unless you count the potatoes with red maple syrup.
The food was mediocre that we ordered. The service was rough, although the servers were nice. I was hoping for more and hate that our dinner was so poorly executed. I’ve heard others say they loved it. Not my...
