TLDR - inside/outside seating, great food, great staff, great atmosphere 10/10.
“Swunderful, Smarvelous” - the song “S Wonderful” by Diana Krall is all I could think when leaving Wickson for the second meal in 12 hours; a small open window kitchen, dominated by a beautiful wood fired oven offers an exciting meal and a show. If you are looking for a team who delivers thoughtfully crafted flavors and an equally tailored atmosphere you simply can not miss out on stopping in.
Dinner: A limited menu showcasing the talent and expertise the team has in Iberian cuisine ensures that there are no wrong choices. A robust and thoughtfully curated wine selection, a mix of US and imports, offered a refreshing change for the palate from the day touring the surrounding vineyards. The meal, best enjoyed family style (shared-plates), had generous portions and balanced ingredients, leaving no one unsatisfied (3 starters we’re more than enough to satisfy our party of 2 with barely any room for our main course, all 3 had been scraped clean). The staff (both FOH and BOH) were attentive, friendly, and passionate about their work; traits that were clearly displayed through the food and service. As service ramped up Chef Jason and his suis chef moved like clockwork; a true display of masters of their craft as they artfully timed the courses of multiple tables all while balancing the small cooking space and the temperature of the wood fired oven (the entire line is comprised of the oven and two induction burners, for those that don’t know that’s beyond TINY). If mistakes were made they were few and far between as the waitstaff and chefs moved nearly perfectly in sync. The experience summed up was truly “Swunderful”.
Lunch: Pizza! Sticking true to the roots and use of the buildings vintage oven the team at Wickson churns out crisp, charred, deliciously beautiful pizzas. Using seasonal ingredients, sourcing local when possible, the team lets their imaginations run wild producing an ever changing array of inspired flavors. A “Smarvelous” experience!
Chef Jason and his team are putting out some serious eats and I only foresee greater things for them to come! Don’t miss out on this...
Read moreHad an absolutely stunning meal at Wickson on January 28. The menu is lean (which I personally love--never trust a restaurant that's trying to have "something for everyone") The food was absolutely stellar-- from the house baked fresh bread to the wood oven roasted oysters, the warm house-marinated olives (could have eaten a pound of them) to the shockingly excellent caesar salad (the housemade boquerones and fennel breadcrumbs?! come. on.) and Dungeness crab cioppino (FILLED with fresh shellfish, a salt cod broth....one of the all-time greatest cioppino's)--everything was best in class. The wine selection is very well-curated and our excellent server made the perfect suggestion for our meal. The open-plan kitchen and nearly empty restaurant (everyone was watching the Superbowl playoffs) meant that we had the absolute pleasure of getting to know Chef Jenny--the one-woman show responsible for all the brilliant food at this intimate, very special restaurant. I could not recommend Wickson more. We will be back as soon as we're in the area again. And thank you, Chef Jenny, for an absolutely...
Read moreBoth service and food were disappointing. One of our appetizers was given to another table, leaving one person in our party of 4 waiting to get their appetizer until others were finished. No apology. Staff began removing dinner plates while some members of party were still eating and seemed surprised when we asked that they wait for everyone to finish their meal. Food was pretty decent, but certainly not outstanding. Sausage and potato cake dish, while tasty, was far too scanty -- one good sized sausage and a single small potato cake. Even the portion of onions served with the sausage was skimpy. Unlikely to...
