As a long time resident here in the golf course community of Chambers Bay, in University Place...I cannot express my disappointment far enough.
What a day ruined on my wife's 43rd birthday dinner that she looked so forward too! She made reservations 3 days before the 15th. We walk in and a service person asked "Are you here to eat!?" Pretty rhetorical question! The manager happens to walk out and she sees the confusion on our face, and asked if we had a reservation...We did/do...She says we're closed and not serving. Our face was blank with sudden disappointment.
On the desk, the paper says closed from August 1st - 14th!! Here we are on the 15th, which they should be open, and they're not. They're to focused on getting ready for the PGA Amateur event! They've completely disregarded other responsibilities to the business and community of customers. To NOT even get a phone call / text / email, etc...is absolutely unacceptable. Our first experience with Chambers Grill last year, the kitchen caught on fire and the menu was limited to three items available. WOW!!
The biggest failure that I see in the University Place Council is LACK OF MANAGEMENT..as for our BIGGEST STAPLE we have for our community...CHAMBERS BAY...is a disappointment as well with management's incompetence!
With that said...the persons that are in positions of positive progression for revenue and business' have FAILED in our community due to their incompetence!!
We failed to keep the $$$ in University Place during the 2015 U.S. Open due to incompetence! Hundreds of thousands of dollars were lost to our local community businesses because some how the idea of "Bussing all of the outsiders / visitors / customers in from the surrounding communities was a good idea!!"
The city did all this work, spending tax dollas on the city's visual presentation, and NO ONE, shopped our stores, ate breakfast, lunch, or dinner at our restaurant!! "An absolute, atrocious, inexcusable existence of FAILURE TO MANAGE!" Small, "BIG" things like this, do not have people coming back to visit, or live, or invest!
With all my heavy disappointment, I encourage ANY, and ALL U.P. residents to hold these persons' accountable for their incompetence, and voice your concerns directly to U.P. counsel and Chambers Grill!
This isn't just about dropping the ball on one's 43rd birthday reservation...this goes way farther than just my experience!!
If the city of UNIVERSITY PLACE and the affiliation of CHAMBERS BAY, wants too, and expects to become a high caliber community and try to make it a place for our city to be on the map and known for great and wonderful attributes...WE HAVE A LOOOONG WAY TO GO!
I hope some will adopt this disappointed opinion, and make phone calls, emails, conversations with the city of University Place, AND Chambers Grill management about this huge concern for all of us.
It seems they just want to keep raising property taxes, but just can't or WONT allow the revenue to contribute to a balanced community for all.
Lots of work to be done, best of luck! Barry Hall (Small business...
Read more5 stars for the caddie and the views. 2 stars for the horribly conditioned course. so i gave it a total of 3 stars.
I'm at a loss for why there are all of these positive reviews and how in the heck this place will be ready for the US Open in 2015. I played on 08/31/13 and the course I played was not a reasonable or fair test of golf. I'm a pretty decent golfer and a good putter so I expect to make birdie putts from 15-20 feet out. Unfortunately, about 1/2 of the greens were completely unplayable. Putts bounced horribly and speeds were grossly inconsistent.
Additionally, multiple areas of the fairways were burnt out, the rough was anemic and a non-issue on missed drives. The only penalties were the waste areas which, for anyone who consistently strikes the ball well really aren't a huge problem. Aside from the fact there were areas of green and fairway which were essentially nothing but sand just like the waste areas.
The only truly great experience was having a caddy. He was a young guy (17 years old) but very knowledgable about the course, his yardages were spot on, and putt reads were as good as I could get considering the terrible shape of the greens. There were multiple chips and pitches I played to 30 feet away from the hole or well past the hole because my caddie told me everything would feed back down to within 5 feet if I did so. He was great.
The views on the course are spectacular and I truly mean that. The Sea-Tac area has some of the most amazing natural beauty in the world and May-October here are as great as anywhere else.
I came to the course believing all of the hype and ready to spend $3,500 to get unlimited playing privileges for the year. I left feeling that the $50 I paid my caddie was the only money I spent that was worth it. I paid $185 to play a course with greens worse than most municipal courses I have played.
I WANT this place to be great and it does have true potential. Unfortunately, I am terrified for the US Open in 2015 and what these amazing golfers will face. They deserve a better conditioned course.
Actually, forget the golfers. This incredible land and the amazing initial design by RTJ II deserves more respect than the condition this course is...
Read moreA group of us went to walk the trail and stop at the clubhouse for lunch. The walking trail was fantastic, and the food at the clubhouse was great, not priced too bad for a clubhouse setting. When we ordered, they informed us that they would not split checks for groups of 8 or more (there were 10 of us). Which.. in this age of computer tickets seems odd, but not unheard of.. the server (who turned out to be the manager as well) did say she could run multiple cards, so we figured we would deal with it.
When it came time to pay, she informed us she couldn't just run each card for each person's meal, that if there were 3 cards, the bill would just be split among each card.
HUH?
If she can tell the system to run each card for 1/3 of the bill, why can't it be done on a per person basis? Never heard of this from any sort of restaurant. Finally she "broke down" and split us in to individual tickets.
She kept falling back on "it's our policy", and partially blame it on their computer system. They're going to be hosting the US Open in 6 months, if their system can't handle individual tickets, they're going to have major issues come June.
Well, sorry, but your policy sucks, and we all agreed we'll likely not be coming back again. Great food was ruined by the simple fact they were not, without way too much drama, willing to accommodate a group of individuals being able to pay...
