We have driven by here for a while and never stopped in and I don't know why. It's fantastic! Mom was in visiting for Christmas and I lost track of the fact that 12/26 was the observed holiday for Christmas so a lot of my favorite places were closed. Then I just started looking close to home(and in Boothwyn the voices are slim if you don't want a diner or fast food). I called and they were open so we went.
It was a Greek place previous to this which was also great (but I think it was just a front for the Greek mob since no one was ever in there but they stayed open for several years 🤔😉). Anyway-just a few metal tables and chairs and counter service but it's cute-made to look like a good truck (which they still have and run in Wilmington). We actually need a few minutes to check out the menu (small but mighty) because there were actually different options!
We got the Birria quesadilla, the chicken machete and the chorizo street tacos. While we were waiting for our food the young man working asked if we would like a complimentary hot chocolate and since it was 15° we happily said yes. It was delicious!; different than any Mexican style hot chocolate I'd ever had. It was almost floral-we asked him if he could find out what was in it and bless him, he tried. He can't back and said he doesn't speak much Spanish and she (I'm assuming the owner/chef) didn't speak much English 🤣. It was kind of him to try and then our food was coming out so we didn't care. It was delicious and authentic. The machete is a large corn tortilla folded over and filled and you could tell by the taste and texture that the tortilla was homemade! The Birria (think pulled chuck roast, not as greasy, cooked dry with a chili run) quesadilla was huge and served with fresh lime, onions/cilantro, guacamole and a dipping broth that was wonderful. The tacos were huge and the chorizo was even better because it wasn't overly spicy to make up for lesser quality like most store bought.
We also ordered 3 churros which were the only thing I think we're a little over priced at $3 each but they were fresh and hot with a tres leches filling.
It was $63 including drinks but we each brought back half our player for lunch the next day so you can't say the portions are stingy for the price. I truly hope they succeed here and can't...
Read moreI’ve have never been more disappointed. I spent $63 on food I couldn’t eat. I ordered two orders of Birria tacos and loaded shrimp nachos with two kiwi drinks. The Birria tacos had absolutely no flavor! This was unusual to me because I’ve had their food many times when it was just the food truck. The tacos taste like meat and white bread. The birria sauce tasted like water with some onions in it! The nachos had unseasoned shrimp on it. Oh the shrimp are very tiny now.I believe they changed their recipe to the actual nachos. The ones they are serving now is just plain gross. It taste as if it was just burned bread with a side of cold mashed TOMATOES. The drinks tasted like watered down baby juice. I was so disappointed I asked the person who brought the food out if it was under new management? He said no. I should’ve known something was wrong when I pulled up because the parking lot was empty. However, when I got out the car you can smell their seasonings. Where the heck were they putting the seasonings? on the darn floor? because it’s not in the food?!!! I can’t and we’ll no longer recommend anyone I know to eat here again, and I’m not happy about it. Maybe they should just go back to just the food truck, maybe it’s too many different hands in the pot. Their menu is even bigger then before. Why change what worked? Why did you make the restaurant so dark? Is so we could not take pictures of this now horrible food? Or so we could not see the unseasoned meats and sauces? What is actually going on here?! Who left? Who’s not in the...
Read moreIf my review was on taste alone they would get 5 stars. I have ordered from them 3 times and food was always tasty. The service leaves a lot to be desired and the last two times they messed up my order. The line gets insane at lunch time and seeing as thought its a food truck I would expect them to have better infrastructures in place. I placed an order via an ordering app for pick up and was told my order would be ready in 45 mins. When i arrived I was told to wait and it would be ready soon, after about another 20 minutes I inquired about my order again only to find out that not only was my order never put in, the younger woman at the window was very rude in telling me she doesn’t see it and i would have to wait for them to make it. I asked for my money back (seeing as though i was already past my hour lunch break) and she instructed me to cancel on the app and I told her that i will not do that seeing as thought this is their fault and muttered something under her breath and left the window. I contacted the app company via chat they told me that the restaurant would have to make an update to the order on their end. Finally the gentleman that works there told me he canceled the order and apologized. As much as I love their food i never ordered from them again after that. I drive past their truck daily and always see a crowd so hopefully they are providing...
