I recently stopped by Foster Freeze in Ventura with my nephew and mom, excited for a classic lunch featuring burgers, fries, and of course, ice cream. However, our experience fell short of expectations, resulting in a 2 1/2 star review.
Foster Freeze, once a beloved walk-up counter service establishment near Ventura College, seems to have undergone changes that impacted the overall dining experience. Gone are the tables and benches where patrons could sit and enjoy their meals, and even the small inside dining room has been closed off.
To make matters worse, the cashier we encountered was rude and unhelpful. When asked about customer restrooms, which they do have, we were abruptly told they were not available for use. Additionally, when inquired about the closed dining room, the response was dismissive, stating it was simply "locked."
The prices have soared to unreasonable levels, with our simple order of two burgers, a kid's hotdog, fries, and drinks totaling almost $40. Considering the lack of seating and poor customer service, this price point was unjustifiable.
While the food itself wasn't terrible, it certainly didn't meet the mark of excellence. The hotdog my nephew received was disappointingly small compared to the bun, and my burger was overshadowed by an oversized bun with scanty meat. The saving grace was the fries, which were decent. Sadly, we didn't even get to sample their famed ice cream due to the absence of seating.
Foster Freeze seems to rely heavily on its reputation, but our recent visit left much to be desired. It's evident that improvements are needed in areas such as customer service, pricing, and overall dining experience. As a result, I doubt I'll be returning anytime soon unless significant changes are made. Foster Freeze, it's time to step up your game and deliver the quality experience your...

0.25 for this ranch? Is that enough for one onion ring? And it is not real ranch dressing. You can tell it is Kraft from the bottle.
Were the onion rings at least bomb? No. Bland, subpar. I could have gotten better at Wendy's sad to say. Chocolate milkshake fresh from the machine? No ๐ pre-made and sitting in a fridge off to the side. How much you ask? 8.99 for a medium!!!!! Foster's Freeze is known for making bomb shakes but just sitting in a fridge? McDonald's even has it fresh. And hold on folks, Cash Only for 5 plus months now. We stopped and got Cash at the atm because we knew the machine had been down. We won't go back again for this expensive crap food with all the inconvenience, it was not worth it!! Woman at cash register was super nice though. Very kind and tried to get me an extra ranch....no go but at...
