I recently stopped by Foster Freeze in Ventura with my nephew and mom, excited for a classic lunch featuring burgers, fries, and of course, ice cream. However, our experience fell short of expectations, resulting in a 2 1/2 star review.

Foster Freeze, once a beloved walk-up counter service establishment near Ventura College, seems to have undergone changes that impacted the overall dining experience. Gone are the tables and benches where patrons could sit and enjoy their meals, and even the small inside dining room has been closed off.

To make matters worse, the cashier we encountered was rude and unhelpful. When asked about customer restrooms, which they do have, we were abruptly told they were not available for use. Additionally, when inquired about the closed dining room, the response was dismissive, stating it was simply "locked."

The prices have soared to unreasonable levels, with our simple order of two burgers, a kid's hotdog, fries, and drinks totaling almost $40. Considering the lack of seating and poor customer service, this price point was unjustifiable.

While the food itself wasn't terrible, it certainly didn't meet the mark of excellence. The hotdog my nephew received was disappointingly small compared to the bun, and my burger was overshadowed by an oversized bun with scanty meat. The saving grace was the fries, which were decent. Sadly, we didn't even get to sample their famed ice cream due to the absence of seating.

Foster Freeze seems to rely heavily on its reputation, but our recent visit left much to be desired. It's evident that improvements are needed in areas such as customer service, pricing, and overall dining experience. As a result, I doubt I'll be returning anytime soon unless significant changes are made. Foster Freeze, it's time to step up your game and deliver the quality experience your...

I've been coming here for 33 years , stopped by to grab the world famous corn burritos my usual when I ordered here they we're filming a commercial their at this location and the owner told me as I get out of my car that they were closed , I friend and walked back to my truck , if I were him I would of said hey sorry we're closed we open at 9 am , or what's your name I'll buy what your having next time you visit , or some type of customer apperication or acknowledgement for that matter , like when Grandpa McNair was the owner , food is prepared fresh and the cools down an outstanding job of cooking your order to perfection, the young lady's do a great job when the owner is not there , they smile, they greet you and pay attention ,when the owner is present they don't smile , they don't greet , and they don't show good listening skills . That's things I've noticed over the decades of coming here , but by far this is the best Foster freeze that I've been too in the different many franchised restaurant's I...

Pathetic!!! For real? 6.99 for Onion rings.

0.25 for this ranch? Is that enough for one onion ring? And it is not real ranch dressing. You can tell it is Kraft from the bottle.

Were the onion rings at least bomb? No. Bland, subpar. I could have gotten better at Wendy's sad to say. Chocolate milkshake fresh from the machine? No ๐Ÿ‘Ž pre-made and sitting in a fridge off to the side. How much you ask? 8.99 for a medium!!!!! Foster's Freeze is known for making bomb shakes but just sitting in a fridge? McDonald's even has it fresh. And hold on folks, Cash Only for 5 plus months now. We stopped and got Cash at the atm because we knew the machine had been down. We won't go back again for this expensive crap food with all the inconvenience, it was not worth it!! Woman at cash register was super nice though. Very kind and tried to get me an extra ranch....no go but at...

The last time I went here a few years ago it was awful but this time it was absolutely amazing. I am pretty sure that there must be a new owner because the service was great and the food was fresh. I got corn burritos which were PERFECTION. They had what I think was a tomato based sauce that was tasty and a generous amount of cheese. I also got a really good peach shake with bits of real peach.

Update; Nickel & Dime Alert; In addition to increasing prices, now simple extras which have been free or low cost for decades are between 50c & $2.00. Management is running this classic spot into the ground. ๐Ÿ‘Ž Original post: Uhm, What? "NO Ice Cream" - At Fosters Freeze... Literally stopped in just for a shake ๐Ÿ˜‚
