New York Butcher Shoppe — Restaurant in Vestavia Hills

I would come into this location to get sandwiches before my work shift all the time for weeks. Upon coming in, two of the employees were in the front cutting meat. I stood at the counter to pick up my sandwich for about 3 minutes and was never greeted or even acknowledged whatsoever. Another customer walks in, and one of them immediately drops what he is doing and goes to help the customer, which just entered while mentioning him by his name. I understand helping out guests who are regulars to the business, but not acknowledging a customer whatsoever seems very rude and very biased as well. Another customer came in, and the other guy cutting meat immediately goes to help him as well. I stood there in disbelief and was about to interrupt their conversation to express my frustration with being blatantly ignored by employees who have seen me frequently and have helped me before. But it isn't a good look. It felt very personal, and I think it was intentional. I will never go back to this butcher, especially when spending my money at an establishment that wants to act like I don't exist or like I don't matter as a human being. I understand helping your regulars and keeping them happy, but by helping new customers and being attentive to them as well, you might gain new regulars and maintain those new...

Boy is this little shop a treat! I'm a bit sad that we didn't discover this while we actually lived a little bit closer to this area. Ah well, we'll still return!

The sandwiches are HUGE (as a sign on the front door indicates). It's no joke either. The Mrs and I split a sandwich (wasn't starving) and had a brew a piece. We sat outside because the weather was nice. What a great lunch date! The meat on the sandwiches is very very moist and tasty! Bread is good, beer was tasty and you can't quite go wrong with Zapp's Voodoo chips!! I actually haven't read the other reviews to come before me, so I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but this place really reminds me of Mr. P's. That's a compliment if anybody from New York Butcher Shoppe reads this.

The service was great, friendly, genuine and personal! Great customer service can do wonders for a visit anywhere! We didn't take advantage of any fresh meats for purchase, but wouldn't be opposed to it at all if they are as fresh as the deli meats. There's no reason for this place to have any less than 5 stars.
