My husband and I just moved to the area and we are in search of our “go to” place for Friday night fish fry. Last night we decided on Cimarron. It was very busy which was promising. We don’t mind waiting and having a few old fashioneds for an hour to an hour and a half if the food is good. We initially walked into the bar area and it was pretty packed. I didn’t see a hostess station so I thought maybe we check in at the bar which is like the supper club I bartended at until we moved. After a few minutes a waitress walked by and I stopped her quick to ask. She led us to a back room which was more of a dining area. I now noticed there were multiple entrances to the building. Maybe a few signs outside would be beneficial. We got to the hostess stand and it was a bit chaotic. When I gave her my name for the waiting list, the hostess just said “it’s going to be a while” and stared at me. Again. We don’t mind waiting and since it was so busy it must be good, right? We only ended up waiting around 20 minutes which was awesome. Our server was very friendly. It was her first Friday night and if she was stressed it did not show. She was probably the best part of the evening.
The food was not.
I ordered Bluegill which I love. It’s my go to if it’s on the menu. My first impression when I had my plate was “hmmm. I’ve never had such thick bluegill”. It was double what I’ve normally seen and a very consistent thickness through the whole fish. I thought it was weird but chose to take a bite anyway. It was soooooooooo fishy tasting. It was either super old or was definitely not bluegill. Even my husband thought it was disgusting and he eats everything.
This likely won’t be a place we go back to. May give it a second chance to try steaks on Saturday night sometime but no to the bluegill.
My husband had the seafood platter and he liked it just fine. I stole a shrimp and it was good. So clearly it’s just some things
Try at your own risk and only eat what is...
Read moreOur food was good but the waitress was snarky. We chose the Cimarron because I've seen good reviews on FB as of late. The perch and haddock were light and flaky with a not overly crunchy breading which was very good. We both had the fries(also good), bread(squishy rye, yum) and coleslaw as usual. The coleslaw was kind of mushy and it had some sort of seasoning on top which I wasn't used to but wasn't bad overall(we're kind of coleslaw snobs). They have good tartar sauce which is important to me because I eat it with my fish and my fries. We had the fried mushrooms with ranch for an appetizer before hand which was good. Next time I'll skip the mushrooms because I was way too full after dinner. I had one mixed drink and our bill was $53 which I thought was reasonable.
Our waitress was my only complaint. She was slightly rude and pushy to our friends who had gotten there only minutes before us. The place wasn't full. There's no reason to be snarky about when the rest of us would be there. During dinner we all felt like we were being rushed to get out of there as well.
Overall we had a good experience and we'll go there for fish again. Next time I think we'll go on a Saturday night so we can...
Read moreWe waited an hour for a table, standing outside due to the limited waiting area. Finally got a table that was in a very large, crowded and noisy room! Our table was engulfed in tables to the point of chairs touching and people having to move in order to get through! Our elderly server was not friendly in the slightest and was frazzled and anxious 😬. My husband, my adult son and I ordered the exact same dinner...Friday fish fry that I had heard people rant about. We each ordered a drink, 2 beers and a Pepsi. Another half hour goes by, not even a glass of water. Nothing! Just seeing all these people waiting and watching our server spinning around was making me anxious! I told my husband I am leaving...he said, no we already ordered. Now it wad going on 50 mins since we put in our order and we couldn't even get a beer! My son and I walked out...2hrs later! Thirsty and starving! My husband came out 5 minutes later. He told our server we were leaving. We went to Stone Toad down the street and it was delicious! I never went there again nor will I. What I did see didn't look appealing or appetizing anyway!! Over priced, rude employees and not worth trying to find parking. Some had to park on the hwy. Parking...
