I made a reservation at Balcony One after my hotel recommended it. From the moment I walked in I had a sense that this was going to something special. The hostess greeted me warmly and I was quickly seated. My server, Austin, promptly came to my table to orient me to my dining experience and take my drink order. I selected one of their signature cocktails which was well made and delicious. As I perused the menu, I was offered an amuse-bouche which was a delightful preview of what I had to look forward to. My server was very well-spoken and knowledgeable about the menu. There were so many fabulous choices that I had wished that I could pick several. I settled on the Dino Rib, a Smoked Beef Rib served with Chili Nopales, corn cakes and a side of their house made apple-jalapeño BBQ sauce.
While I was enjoying my cocktail as my entrée was being prepared, the Pit Master, brought me an out-of-this-world sample of their bone-in-bacon. The GM came by to introduce himself as I was recovering from my transportive bone-in-bacon ecstasy. I also was introduced to the owner, George Rodinos, and was impressed by his friendly manner that conveyed the warm hospitality of what you might only expect at your best friend’s home. As the night went on, I realized that each member of the staff that I encountered demonstrated this same attitude of genuine warmth. This is something that is rare to find in this day of fast-paced, get them in and then get them out mentality. I felt relaxed and I noticed that customers at the tables around me seemed to be having a similar experience.
The atmosphere was trendy, yet cozy. Everywhere there were beautiful, handcrafted touches to the décor. This was a unique restaurant, not something out of a supply catalog. In addition, there were lots of original works of art by George’s wife, Cynthia, who I got to meet also. As an art dealer, I was interested in her work, and later gave me a personal tour of her artwork.
I had an opportunity to have a drink with George and he took me to their wonderful upstairs balcony seating area. What a great space that is. I sat at the bar and got to talk with several other members of the staff. I did not want to leave. I told them if I lived nearby that this would be my hangout place.
Balcony One is a fabulous place for happy hour, a romantic dinner, or special occasion. Do yourself a favor and visit this lovely restaurant in Virgin, Utah. The service is unmatched. The staff genuinely cares about your experience. The food is amazing. Everything I tasted melted in my mouth. Absolutely the best meal I had while on my month-long road trip. I am planning a return trip there soon. Balcony One is a must. I highly...
Read moreI was convinced from all the other 5 star reviews that this place was going to be a highlight of our trip, but it was disappointing. For the price of the entrees, the quality was lacking.
The atmosphere walking in was odd, like a repurposed mexican restaurant. The staff were wearing very casual clothes like t-shirts and jeans, which made the price the more confusing. Seems like this place is just a tourist trap for people coming in famished and willing to pay anything.
I will say the service was excellent. The dark haired waiter with a buzz cut was very candid and attentive. He gave good suggestions and helped us navigate the menu for the best options. He also pointed out to us that the gratuity was automatically added for the group of 6+, which I greatly appreciated since so often the staff won’t say anything and leaves you open to double tip.
We ordered the Baby Back Ribs, the Pork Chop, the Alfredo (one with steak two with chicken), the Chipotle(?) Salad, the New York Steak, and the Ahi Tuna.
The ribs fell of the bone but had no flavor. I’m not sure if they were seasoned at all. The sauce they came with was weird, a bit of a tangy sweet sauce that didn’t remind me much of bbq.
The Pork Chop was pleasant. Good flavor and easy to chew, but very expensive (like everything was) and not enough wow factor to justify.
The Alfredo pricing was weird. You paid to add meat to the dish. It was $18 to add chicken and $21 to add steak. For the 2 we added chicken on, they were filled normally, but the one that we paid extra for to have steak only came with 3 measly pieces and what seemed like half the noodles. Why would the steak addition cost more if you were going to skimp on the pasta.
The salad was okay. Nothing really memorable about the flavor except that it had some spice that snuck up on you.
The steak was not superb for $55, we make it better at home easily. There wasn’t a lot of flavor soaked into it and it was tiny. The Au Gratin Potatoes were tasty, one of the waiter’s recommendations.
The Ahi Tuna was the best dish to me. I thought the wasabi sauce was very interesting and unique.
Overall this was a one time experience for us, we will not be coming back. The prices are insane for the...
Read moreWow! Definitely put this on your list to stop in and get some amazing cuisine.
It's an American/southwest /bbq/Italian and hint of Greek restaurant with creative, yet hearty dishes.
We had a handful of the menu items for dinner and loved the atmosphere, food quality, energy, and vibe of the restaurant.
There are a lot of pork dishes which I'm not the biggest fan of, but there are beef, chicken, and fish dishes as well. Pork is definitely the most prevalent protein on the menu. In that same light though, the pork wings are amazing. You get 3 nub/meatball pork ribs served bone-in, so the price is a little steep at 9$ for the plate, but the glaze and cook is phenomenal. This was one of the top dishes we had.
The other standout dish was the Dino rib. It's a fatty beef rib, but the seasoning and tenderness was divine. If you love a pot roast or a fatty brisket, this meal is for you. The sides weren't to die for but the meat was insanely tender and perfectly seasoned.
We also ordered the rib eye, which is the most expensive steak cut on the menu at around 48$ with sides, but it wasn't amazing. It was definitely good but I felt the Dino rib outshined the rib eye in many ways.
The drink selection was great and they had a large selection of wines (whites and reds) if you are into that.
Dessert had four options, and we splurged and went with the Tiramisu. It was good but not the best. Still worth it though.
One of the most impressive things about our dining experience was the service and staff. They had 3 people watching over each section of the restaurant. We had our server, the hostess (filling drinks, removing plates, etc..) and a busser, watching /asking if we needed anything throughout the night. I've only had this type of service at high end restaurants and so it was a delight to see so many people on-hand willing to help. The restaurant owner definitely had experience with Michelin or 4/5-stat restaurant experience and is training the staff to be attentive to the needs of their patrons.
All in all, this is definitely a 5 out of 5 star experience, and I can't wait to come back and try some more of their dishes! So good and...
