I really wanted to love this coffee shop since it’s within walking distance of the municipal center. Unfortunately, after several visits (to give it a fair shot) the offerings have been consistently disappointing. During previous visits I’ve had a salad, a bagel, and a smoothie. At my most recent visit I purchase a small hand pie (a homemade pop tart). I’ve had various qualms with each item but I’ll summarize the most notable here. The $9 smoothie I ordered (bare arms) was hardly a smoothie. Immediately upon receiving the drink, the ice had melted completely into the drink and the various add-ins were left unblended at the bottom of the cup. The entire drink was a watery consistency—not what you expect when ordering a smoothie. The veggie bagel was fine, but the price of 9$ for a grocery store bagel with cream cheese and a few slice of cucumber, tomato, and onion seems quite steep. The hand pie I purchased today has cemented my poor opinion of this place. For nearly $8 I received a small brown sugar hand pie, a little larger than half the size of my hand. Overall it was sickeningly sweet and the brown sugar “filling” inside was as hard as a rock.
On the positive side, the lattes I’ve had have been good and the staff are very friendly. However, the poor quality and value of the food offerings will prevent me from returning again after several...
Read moreFirst time as my daughter wanted to try them out. A hike for us of around 30 minutes as it's almost in Pungo.
The signage is decent and a sign directs you to parking in the rear. The business is in a home.
Parking can be challenging and it also dead ends. The lot was clean and it's in a pretty wooded area.
You enter Astraea in the front. Once inside the counter to order is visible. It's well maintained inside with nice decor. I noticed their trash was overflowing. They offer merchandise for sale
We were warmly greeted and order taken. I got a Hung Jury at the recommendation of staff and a veggie wrap. My daughter got a soda coffee, BLT wrap and yogurt. The total was staggering $50+ with a modest tip. They did not bring out coffee, or food.
There is seating inside and outside where they offer picnic tables. It’s a dog friendly business.
The order took around 15 minutes. I did not care for my coffee and would get something else next time. My daughter enjoyed hers. We both liked our very large sandwiches. We both ate half and had leftovers. The yogurt was like 3-4 cups and had blueberries and strawberries. It was yum!
I'm really between a 3 and a 4 star and a 3.5 seems to fit them. I likely will not rush back due to distance of...
Read moreThis old cottage turned quaint coffee sandwich shop is a refreshing & relaxing stop. Located within walking distance of the Va Beach courthouses, it's very popular among folks out for court business and also locals. The food and drinks are well made and delicious. Various small seating areas inside and many shaded seating choices outside too. It has a quaint art deco atmosphere inside and out. One of those places you're never sorry you checked out. Only snafu I encountered is their order delivery process...once you order (you order at the counter then seat yourself) you should stand close to the counter area to wait because they call out the name of the item they are putting ready on the counter, not a person's name. So if you're off getting a table or using the restroom, you come back to the counter to see items ready but no indication of what is which and for who. Nothing written on the items, and when I asked the employee to be sure I wasn't taking someone else's she wasn't sure herself. But if you stay within ear-shot, you should be fine. Not an over abundance of parking (parking in rear) but there is some overspill parking space for the adjacent...
