UPDATE: I have bumped my review up from 4 stars to 5 stars after the owner or manager (not sure who) called me following my last review to apologize for how my husband was treated and to tell me that it wouldn’t happen again. The restaurant was short staffed that evening and the man that was rude to my husband was actually a delivery driver who happened to be working the front counter that night. I ordered some AMAZING pizza today (April 11th) from this place and was given a seriously delicious piece of cheesecake as an apology when my husband went in to pick our food up. I appreciate being remembered as a customer. Thank you for upping your customer service game and going above and beyond to satisfy the customer.
I would normally give this place 5 stars because the food is amazing, but I have to give this place 4 stars after my experience with the manager who completely disrespected my husband who came in to pick up our order tonight. My husband walked in and stated he had an order for pickup and gave his name. The manager rudely said, “well who are you?! The doordash and Grubhub orders will be over here.” My husband then stated he was a regular customer picking up his personal order. The manager could still not comprehend that he was picking up his own personal order and again asked if he was with doordash or Grubhub. My husband again stated he was picking up his OWN order and gave his name. (Believe it or not, but regular people do still go pick up their own food…) The guy then yelled in the back if they had an order under his name to which the kitchen staff replied that they had it coming up. My husband then tried to still be polite and make small talk and the man ignored him and turned his back to him and walked away. When he gave my husband the food, he proceeded to repeatedly and aggressively tap his finger into the one container telling him our cannolis were in that box. He was completely unprofessional and lacked any type of customer service. We order from Sal’s on a regular basis and this is the first time we have ever had this experience. If the poor customer service continues, you’ll likely lose a customer as well as many other customers in my neighborhood as I live in the military housing up the street and can easily spread the word to avoid your establishment. I hope the owner of this restaurant corrects this issue because I really do love the food here and don’t want to find a new...
Read moreUpdate: I am giving Sal’s NY Pie 5 stars now because they took my comment about the sauce and changed it to a yummy thick marinara sauce!! These gentlemen aim to please! Free garlic knots with a $20 purchase too! My husband’s favorite along with the fried mushrooms.
Previous review:
Many restaurants have come and gone in this little corner and Sal’s NY Pie is the latest to open here. This one is a keeper. We enjoyed wings and zucchini fries, salad and a beautiful calzone. We have gone back three times for calzones. They even opened for us after fireworks July 4th so we could get calzones to go. The crew is very kind and grateful to have customers. They just need a good marinara sauce for the calzones. The sauce they serve tastes like chunky spaghetti sauce. Not easy to dip the calzone in.
There are several negative comments about how this restaurant opened. It would be unusually expedient for anyone to be able to get a rental agreement and permits in the short amount of time since the unfortunate kitchen fire (at Sal’s on Pleasurehouse). Maybe they were already planning to open this restaurant. There are many Sal’s in Hampton Roads just like there are many Jade Garden Chinese restaurants. All different owners. Similar menues, not a problem unless the menue was copyright protected. We could find a similar menu at a dozen other restaurants not named Sal’s. Plenty of customers to go around. When AJ reopens Sal’s on Pleasure House, we will eat there too! He has the best marinara sauce! But please don’t drive this business to the ground with gossip. Everyone needs a chance to work....
Read moreRude staff look at the post the owner wrote wow is all I can say. What he wrote was not correct at all. Nor was the owner or the older men up front when everything went down. And to even tell a lie on Door dash shame on you. As the owner I would have contacted the Dasher to find out exactly what happened. Not commented with a lie. Fact is this the young man you have working for you is out of control period. Think about it if I wouldn't have shown him the pH why did he go back and retrieve the order for me. And the older man that was first up at the counter even went back to finish the order way be for that young man came up front to take over as if he owned the place. News flash so called Owner your employee lied to you that is not what happened at all, but obviously it's ok for ur staff to be rude and attack some one. OH u don't have to worry about me coming back not to pick up or eat at ur restaurant.also when you tell ur lies keep in mind I had Door dash on the phone way before ur employee chased me out of the store when I showed him several times who I was and picking up for. I have been doing door dash for a long time and have never had a problem until...
