Ok. A little history about me. I have been on BBQ quest in Virginia since 2012 this makes 70 or 71 different BBQ joints I have been to in 11years. A friend told me about y'all. So yesterday, I finally had the time to check y'all out. I'll keep this review short and to the point. I was greeted by the owners son, when I walked through the door. Nice young man named Oliver. I told him about my quest. The restaurant is on the corner of an old small strip mall on Williamsburg road across from Richmond International Airport. The inside has plenty of seating. They have a full service bar. 2 TV's. It's clean inside as well as the bathrooms. I believe it was an old bank at one time. It still has the Bank vault. I believe that's were they keep the recipes for they're delicious barbecue? I ordered the 2 meat combo. Chopped pork and ribs. My 2 sides. Cheese fries and Mac n cheese. A bun as well for the chopped pork. There signature BBQ sauce on the side and Coca-Cola to drink. Nice young lady brought the food to my table. Everything was nice and hot. I tried the chopped pork first. It had great smoke flavor and tender and juicy. I then put the rest of it on the bun and poured there BBQ sauce on top. Very tasty! I wished they had more home made sauces like perhaps an N.C. style sauce. The Mac n cheese was tasty and cheesey. The cheese fries were great! Now the best part in my opinion. The Ribs. You get 3 ribs. Let me tell you they are the biggest and have the most meat on the bone than all the BBQ joints I have been too in 11 years. They were tender and juicy with a good smoke flavor. The rub they used or wash was delicious. I didn't add any sauce to them. They were that good!! They also have deserts as well. They do catering as well and have a food truck. Ok my numbers. 4.9 out of 5 They are now in my top 5. Please go...
Read moreAre you freaking kidding me?! This is by far the best barbecue I have had in a very long time. Being a Memphis native, I know what good barbecue is supposed to taste like. Unfortunately, my BBQ dining experience thus far in the Hampton Roads area has been a great disappointment. Even the restaurants that are supposed to be the best, Pearson‘s, Rocco‘s, etc.… And don’t even get me started on Mission barbecue … place blows them all away. By chance, my husband and I happen to drive past the Backwoodz restaurant today and decided to pull in and try out the barbecue. As many times as we’ve driven down this road, we’ve never noticed it.Anyway, I got the pulled pork dinner with a side of french fries, coleslaw, and a cornbread muffin. Let me tell ya, it was absolutely phenomenal. I’ve never dined at a restaurant that puts celery seed in their coleslaw. Well, they do at Backwoods! Delicious! The pork was tender and delicious, very flavorful. The french fries were also fantastic. My husband got the brisket dinner with beans & french fries. He was also equally satisfied/impressed. I don’t know how we have missed this restaurant so many times driving past it, but we will never drive past it again. We will pull into the parking lot and have lunch or dinner … EVERY...
Read more7/24/2025 Went here for some bbq and wasn't disappointed the service was good along with the food the atmosphere seemed cool even though we got take out. The only thing I had an issue with is that I ordered the 2 meat platter and the chicken that came with it was chopped chicken don't get me wrong the chicken was good but I would have preferred whole pieces of chicken. I also had the Brisket which was on point now for the side I had the baked beans and mac & cheese now if you don't like your baked beans sweet these aren't the beans for you I like them myself but everyone isn't into sweet baked beans and as for the Mac & cheese I under we gotta the ends of it because they were about 30mins from closing the when we got there so I don't fault them for that but the Mac & cheese was good anyway and it worked out for me because I like the crunchy parts.. Now I got a dessert also which was the Apple cobbler cheesecake when I tell you it was hitting it was it wasn't overly sweet other, there dessert come from a different business I forgot to get their card but they have some good stuff.. Im not from Va but whats up with 4% henrico county meals tax, 5.3% state tax and 3% gratuity on all orders? I would highly recommend this...
