I was a loyal customer since the beginning of 2020 when they still served in the round aluminum platters. I moved away from the area so it was always a treat when I was called to work back in the area and always treated myself to Big Red. In the beginning of 2023 I noticed the “dream team” the men who cared about the job and recognized the regular customers were not working there. I noticed some newer employees who might struggle with English or a little bit cognitively but I made no judgement about their character or ability, just wanted some food. The issue is the chicken is very bland and tastes oily. The rice is not as flavorful and aromatic as it used to be. I know we can add the toppings but I don’t want to use the toppings to “cover up” the rice and chicken flavors. The gyro also tastes super bland, I decided to stop getting it. I honestly think when they raised the prices it started to go downhill. I understand inflation hurts but y’all had the “dream team”. Then when the round aluminum tray switched over the black containers, I kind of get the vibe that the owners turned into greedy cash grabbers. The prices went up and the...
Read moreI don’t usually write reviews, but this place forced my hand—probably the same way their fried chicken sandwich bullied my taste buds into pure submission.
Let me start with the fried chicken sandwich—crispy, juicy, seasoned like it was raised in a spice monastery. It didn’t just taste good, it tasted like someone’s grandma put her soul into it and then added pickles for good measure. If this sandwich ran for office, I’d vote twice.
The kids devoured their meals like they were on a game show—meat over rice? Gone in 60 seconds. I didn’t even get to steal a bite. 10/10 parenting win.
Now here’s the twist—I voluntarily tried the lentil soup. Normally I avoid soups like suspicious emails, but this one changed my life. It was warm, comforting, and delicious—like a cozy blanket for your insides. I almost cried into the bowl. I’m not saying it healed my trust issues, but we’re on speaking terms again.
Bottom line: come for the meat and sandwiches, stay for the unexpected lentil redemption arc. I wish they were here in Houston but next time I back in that part of US, I...
Read moreI've been to Big Red Halal a few times now, and I've been consistently impressed with the food, the service, and the atmosphere. The owners are very welcoming and make you feel like you're at home. They always ask if you need anything else, and they're happy to make recommendations.
I've tried the gyro over rice and the combo, and both were delicious. The gyro was perfectly cooked, and the rice was perfectly seasoned. The combo comes with a variety of meats, rice, and vegetables, and it's a great way to try a little bit of everything.
I also love that Big Red Halal offers affordable and healthier food options. The food is all cooked fresh daily, and there are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options available.
Overall, I highly recommend Big Red Halal to anyone looking for a delicious and affordable meal. The food is great, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is welcoming.
Pros:
