I was so happy when saw fried chicken advertised at Charlie Bob's Market & Deli, 13711 Dumfries Road, Manassas, Virginia, and wanted to tell the cashier that this is the place that I planned to visit often to buy lunch. Instead, I went straight to the Deli where three friendly Hispanic women were watching and waiting to serve me. I explained to them that this is my first time here. So, the lead Hispanic woman explained that first, you place your order to get an order slip to take to the cashier, and second, pay the cost to get the food.
I went to a white female cashier and stood at the counter in front of where she stood to hand her the order slip and attempted to ask her a question about the beverage in their marketplace. Immediately, the cashier said in a rude tone of voice, "You don't stand right there on the side. You go to the end of the counter down there at the opening," While I was heading to the opening, I again inquired about their beverage to purchase with my meal. Still having an aggressive rude tone, the cashier stated, "I can't hear you! You going to have to speak up and speak through the opening!" When I repeated my question in a normal tone of voice several times even standing in the opening as she requested and believe that she heard me, she still made me repeat myself again and again and then she repeated in a bossy loud manner, "You don't stand and talk to me at the side of the counter! You talk to me down here!" So, I told her, "This is my first time here. I didn't know about this opening."
Then, I asked, "Do you'll have drinks for one dollar?" She stated snappish and rude, "We have different drinks with different prices. Go look over there." Again I needed clarification and asked, "But, do you'll have drinks for a dollar?" Her reply was, "We have lots of drinks for different prices." So, I responded, "I asked you a specific question and you have not answered me. You should know if you have one dollar drinks or not." The cashier still refused to answer my question and more rudely stated, "Go look for yourself!"
After searching for the one dollar drinks, I returned to the register to pay for my purchase. I asked the same cashier, who was the only one to handle my money and transaction, "What is the cost of the drink?" Her reply was, "Look on the screen!" I asked, "Where? This is my first time in your store; and, you have not been nice to me." Sarcastically, she states, "I've been verrryyy nice to you!" "No, you have not. You are very argumentative and rude. May I speak to your manager?" I requested. "I am the manager!" She stated. I said, "Oh, this is how you treat new customers, who come to your store. I am a nice person but you've treated me rudely. What is the cost of my drink?" Her response was, "Get the price from the screen yourself!" "I don't see the price of my drink." Finally, she said, "It's ninety-nine cents."
After paying for my purchase, the cashier didn't give me a receipt. So, I asked, "May I have a receipt?" On the receipt, the cashier's name is Kimberly. I guaranteed Kimberly that I would write about my experience with her at this Market.
While retrieving my food and talking with the lead woman about how rude Kimberly behaved towards me as a first time customer in their store, Kimberly walked over and impolitely cut across our conversation with an attitude as if we were not speaking and put a small paper on the counter in front of me, and walk off. I thanked the lead woman for my food, headed out, and avoided direct eye contact with Kimberly, who starred me down from the corner of my eyes as I was leaving.
After my experience, I read other customers' review about how rude the cashier was to them and the poor customer services at Charlie Bob's Market & Deli. I wonder if Kimberly was the rude cashier in their experience too? I'd rather not return to Charlie Bob's Market & Deli because it's important to trust the one, who handles my money, food, and products with quality customer services than to encounter an unpleasant...
Read moreI visited today for the first time. I assume this is a "Champ's Chicken" franchise location inside a local gas station, given the name Charlie Bob's not being on the packaging for the food or any of the products... As such, this should be the same quality of food you'd expect at any of the Champ's Chicken locations. I've never had it before, so this was an adventure for me...
The fuel cost at the location was high for the area. When I visited, it was $3.19, while a station just down the road was $3.03.
The food I ordered from Champs Chicken was the 4 pc fried fish (catfish) special, for $15. For $15 I had expected it would come as a meal, but nope - it was 4 pieces of fish in a box. The fish tasted alright, but was extremely salty, which is a shock to me because I am one of those family members which everyone else knows for dumping salting on nearly everything, and is the first one to reach for the salt shaker when eating out anywhere... This fish had the traditional crispy crunchy breadcrumb batter, with a nice flaky hot interior. The food was pretty good, but probably not worth the $15 - Maybe $9.99-11.99, since it came with no drink and no sides. The food was ready pretty fast. The staff were friendly and polite.
Since this is essentially a franchise restaurant inside another location, what they have you do is this: They write down your order, they give you the ticket, you walk over to the gas station clerk counter, you hand them the ticket, they ring you up and mark it paid, you take the ticket back over to the Champs counter and hand it back when you get your food. An interesting way to do it for sure, but I can see why they do...
Read moreI got the 2 piece chicken meal with an extra thigh and leg. My sides were hush puppy, spiced apple, and Mac and cheese. I went around 5pm and I was the only one ordering food. There were 2 other people that came in to buy drinks and stuff.
The chicken was okay at best. The meat was bland which makes me think the chicken wasn't brined before frying. The batter was a bit salty with maybe some pepper, no idea I couldn't taste the pepper. I don't eat very salty so it's pretty impressive that I could barely taste the salt. Its a 3 out of 5 tasting chicken.
The biscuit was hard, flavor was okay though. Nothing too impressive. Not sure if it was hard because it was sitting out for a while.
The hush puppies were dry with okay flavor. Nothing to write home about.
Spiced apples were pretty good, but it's pretty hard to mess that up.
I don't have anything to say about the Mac and cheese since they didn't give it to me.
The entire meal was $17 and some change. Overall its edible, but there are better fried chicken places. This is my first time here so I don't know if it was an off day or if I came at the wrong time, but it would not be a place I would actively recommend to others. Maybe one day I will go back and try their subs, but not...
