I hate leaving a low review for this place, the scenery and staff were great. Unfortunately the food was really bad, I don't understand the high reviews. On the walk in I saw some other plates people had ordered, the hot dog and the chili, both looked unappetizing. The hot dog was a light pink and glistening with fat, like those you can buy in packs of 25 for a dollar. The chili looked watery and greasy with big chunks of onions thrown on top, just looked unappetizing. We ordered the French dip, chicken salad sandwich, seafood bisque and creamy red pepper soup.
The sandwiches were ok, the fresh baked bread was the highlight of the sandwich and about the only redeeming part of the meal. The French dip was pretty bland, and the jus it came with seemed like hot water. The chicken salad was similarly "ok", but we definitely felt like we make better sandwiches at home.
The soups were a complete stomach turning disaster. The creamy red pepper soup was gray and bland, I was unable to locate any red pepper at all, and it really resembled dirty dishwater. I was unable to eat it. The seafood bisque appeared to be the exact same soup except with a little old bay and what appeared to be dried shrimp thrown in it. It similarly was not eaten, and we all felt queasy for about an hour and a half after eating there.
We were going to order dessert but after tasting the food decided against it. I will personally never come here again, but if you find yourself coming here, I would recommend setting your expectations low, ordering only a sandwich, and taking in the...
Read moreThey posted on FB asking their clientele to come support them, as they had a rough month in January. We had meant to go (we go to every airport restaurant we can here on the East Coast, they are usually wonderful!!) so we drove 45 minutes to go there today. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated, as we were not the only ones who had seen the post! The place is small and I was disappointed in the cleanliness level. The food (special double cheese cheeseburger and potato salad for my husband, half a club sandwich on wheat and a cup of piping hot onion soup for me) took another 20 minutes. There were probably 20 other customers there, but while we were waiting we saw a group of firefighters and first responders who had had their lunches there and were leaving so maybe the staff, again, were just overwhelmed. The club sandwich bread was dry and the one piece of iceberg lettuce and one tomato slice were not appealing. Good, crispy thin-cut bacon though. The onion soup was not in any way special. Service was harried, as they were clearly overwhelmed. We will try the place again when they’ve had time to catch their breath and to bring the space up to how they want it. Right now it barely merits a 3. Sorry guys. Cleanliness and informing people who are waiting if you are slammed...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Charlie's Restaurant and I must say, the experience was nothing short of remarkable. Nestled on an active airfield, Charlie's offers a dining ambiance filled with serenity and a touch of adventure that makes eating here a unique experience. As for the food, it was delightful. I opted for the hot dog, which was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. My friend tried the hamburgers, which they described as juicy and satisfying – definitely a hit! The quality of the food was excellent, and everything seemed freshly made with good ingredients. What truly sets Charlie's apart is its theme of adventure, enhanced by its location. Eating while watching planes take off and land in the distance adds an element of excitement and novelty to the meal. The peaceful yet exhilarating atmosphere at Charlie's is something you'd be hard-pressed to find anywhere else.Whether you're a local or just passing through, I highly recommend stopping at Charlie's for a meal. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy good food with a great view, and the sense of adventure is the...
