When it comes to Chinese, there are the places that assume they know what Americans want, and then there are Chinese resteraunts that know what Americans want when they walk into a Chinese resteraunt.
Sadly this resteraunt is painfully in the latter rather then the former. It's always a gamble when you try a new take out spot, but I wanted to give this place a chance. Especially after their competition across the street served me some chicken that had clearly never hit the inside of a wok and was probably refried in a deep fryer from an order that someone never picked up. I didn't even dignify them with a review because I feel I need to be served food before I can comment on it.
A common frustration when it comes to Asian foods is the Americanized version of it. Which make no mistake, is delicious, provided its a true fusion of American and Asian techniques. There is nothing better IMO then a General Tso chicken where the chicken bits are hacked off the hanging animal, wok fried, doused in that sugary goodness spiked with Chinese peppers and served with white rice. With that same sezchuan chili oil or paste on the side. You can get this at Full Kee on Horsepen, or Chens at Twin Hickory.
You do not get this here. In fact you get the absolute worst of Americanized Chinese food. After eating my take out here, I described it to my friend as thus. "It's as if the chef tasted Southern Cream of Wheat, and decided that's how Americans like their chicken". I never knew that "nothing" was a flavor, until I ate here. There was nothing wrong with the chicken mind you. It tasted like chicken. Nothing wrong with the preparation. It was fried fine. Nothing was wrong. It also tasted like nothing too. Other then sugar.
The only enjoyable part of the meal was the rice, which was steamed to perfection. Usually when you get a good sauce I like to pour some on the rice to enhance it. In this case though the rice could not be helped by the main dish. Maybe it's the rural location, though talking to one of the locals about it seemed to indicate this may be the stores reputation. "It's okay" seemed to be the common refrain. Which is a shame because clearly the owners put alot of pride into their store. The interior decor and presentation...
Read moreI ordered the beef and broccoli, and the triple delight. The beef was extremely tough and I reported it to the manager. She told me that the beef is like that and to order something else. This statement was untrue because we were regular customers who loved these two dishes. When I placed my next order, she refused to honor the credit of my previous order. She stated since I was ordering the beef and broccoli again then I was lying about my previous order. I told her I love the dish, however the last order was made differently. She finally gave me my money back and I left the restaurant. I called today to place an order and soon as I told them beef and broccoli, they hung the phone up on me. I called back three times and the manager answered the phone. The only thing I said was the phone was disconnected and I want to confirm my order, she then says that I remember you and I am not going to take your order for the beef and broccoli because you complained. This is poor business practice. I was willing to give them another chance, but their response towards me will cost them a customer. The service has changed dramatically since the change in ownership or management. Poor business practice in our...
Read moreI loved my lunch special shrimp egg fu young, I called ahead of time and when I got there my food was waiting for me. You get a decent amount, unfortunately I don’t have a picture to show because I ate it before I remembered lol. The only complaint would be that their lunch special is a lil expensive because typically I pay between 5-6 dollars for lunch special near my house but I paid $9.15 here. Which if I were to buy a regular dinner size egg gu yun from my local Chinese i would pay what I paid here for a lunch special. Nonetheless, I will definitely return because the food was very fresh and very tasty. It is an actual restaurant setting; very fancy compared to traditional Chinese restaurants. I attempted to come here a few weeks ago when I was recommended by my coworkers, but I didn’t know they were closed on Mondays. I ended up at China King which is literally across the...
