Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard — Restaurant in Virginia

I Love Rita's Ice and get it every time I return to Hampton Roads because they don't have one in Salem. Visiting Fredricksburg and I saw they had Ritas....told my husband I had to go. I was disappointed. They had routine flavors which was ok..... Georgia Peach is one I like. I always get mine with custard just on top. I got my husband just peach and I got a combo of watermelon and just a little of the peach(figured I would eat his.. 😂). The watermelon was good but the peach was very light in color and had very little peach flavor. It was also missing the smooth texture as it had small chunks of ice I never had in previous Rita Ice. I also feel the watermelon, though good, did not have the flavor or quality I have known from Rita Ice. I also was surprised how little of the custard they placed on top. My husband exchanged his. They said they do not do that because they offer samples prior to ordering. I did not ask for a sample because I have had Rita's several times, had people in line and am familiar with the flavors. They all tried the peach(employees) and stated that it is normal. They were nice enough to exchange the Italian Ice but not the little amount of custard on top. It wasn't horrible but I believe I will keep it a special treat when I return to my childhood home of Hampton Roads. That Rita's seems to have better quality control which apparently adds up to better flavor. Sad as we are moving to this area but it...

My husband and I visited here for the first time and got Sundays. We ended up getting small, to make sure it was good . We ended up loving them. We went back the next day and were specific about how we wanted our Sundays made and they made them the way they wanted To make it. ( I guess bc they were busy) But if we pay for extra toppings, extra toppings should be on them; We didn't say anything. We just enjoyed our ice cream Sundays. Then the next day we decided to take our whole family. Again my husband and I ordered the Sundays. He got small and I got large. We were specific once again on how we wanted it made... when our order was complete his small was no different than my large.. for the price there definitely should be a big difference in the quantity of a small Sunday and a Large.. The only way we could tell which Sundays were who's , was because my husband had caramel on his and I got chocolate. If we both got chocolate we would not have known what the large was and what the small was. This definitely needs to change. We really love the taste but are very disappointed in the portion of what we are getting.. especially for the price. I gave it four stars because we absolutely love it, but we will go again for this last time to see if this is a spot that we would visit and take our family that comes in from out of town and rate them once more.

This place was great and now is quite disappointing. We have gone there twice within the past month, and they have always forgotten an item or tried overcharging me.

The first time we went, my S.O. got a concrete and asked for peach rings added to it. They charged us for the topping but never added it or even bothered to give us some.

Today, we decided to give them another shot, but they did not get my sundae correctly. I asked for strawberries and gummy bears as my advertised two topping selection, but they once again forgot a topping and did not add the whipped cream and cherry that was supposed to come with a sundae. Mind you, the young lady behind the counter tried telling me I needed to pay extra for a 2nd topping before asking her manager for clarification.

Smaller complaint, today when we tried adding an additional topping to my S.O's concrete, they just handed us the topping inside of a sauce container instead of mixing it in. I understand that they made the effort to give us the extra topping, but if it could not be mixed in, I would've liked for there to have been told so instead of getting handed some with no clarification.

I am usually pretty patient when it comes to food service as someone who has been on both sides, but if I am paying $20 plus tip for two hand-sized containers of ice cream, I'd like to get what I ask for, especially if...
