After just one trip to Selvedge, they were immediately added to my favorites-rotation in Charlottesville. My visit was near the beginning of July, and they were seating by advance reservation only. Pro-tip: all reservations appeared to be sold out online, but when I called them directly, they actually had a quite a few times available for the night I wanted to visit. When in doubt, give them a call. The staff is extremely nice and helpful (on the phone and in person). The atmosphere is really cool. Tuckered in the back corner of the Wool Factory, Selvedge has that uber modern, warehouse vibe with plenty of open, airy space. This makes for added comfort during Covid, when we want all the extra space between us and other patrons as we can get. They also have a cozy patio that was covered by a large tent when we visited. There was a brief storm that blew threw while we were there and the folks outside stayed put without any impact from the weather. The staff is doing an excellent job with social distancing and keeping all areas constantly sanitized. We sat inside and never felt uncomfortable at all. When we visited, all ordering was done on paper to limit speaking with staff. It seems they have since moved to an online system where you can order directly from your table. I love their awareness and concern for safety. This is also a very modern option that will be great when we get to the other side of this pandemic. (one day, y'all!) Our server was EXCELLENT! She exuded warmth and friendliness, even behind her mask. We actually visited after already having an early dinner, so we didn't expect to order much food ... just the possibility of a snack. We went for a glass of wine. I know, I know - we visited a brewery for wine. I have to say though, they have a freakin' amazing wine list. Lots of local options and also some really good finds by the bottle. I'll try the beer eventually (I've heard great things), but with the wine list they have, I'll need to get through a few must-try options on that list first. Anyhow, back to the server and her recommendations while we debated about a few snacks - she was extremely helpful and quickly answered the few questions we had about the menu. I can't rave enough about her service. I wish I had made a note of her name. We ended up ordering smoked beets, dry rub chicken wings and crinkle fries (for dine-in). Let me just tell you: those beets are EPIC. If you like beets, you have got to try these babies. Holy moly. As soon as we tried 'em, we knew we were getting an order to go. We love chicken wings and these did not disappoint. They were bigger than we expected and the flavor packed a mighty punch! It'll be tough on our next visit trying to decide which wings to order. They had two other flavor options when we went and they all sounded fantastic. Our last snack was the most surprising for us ... the crinkle fries. Surprising because we don't typically prefer crinkle fries. I'm not even sure what prompted me to order 'em, aside from the fact that there should always be some kind of potato on the table. Y'all ... we devoured these salty spuds of heaven. We have now crossed to the land of crinkle-fry-lovers (but only from Selvedge). After thoroughly enjoying all the tasty snacks mentioned above, with glasses of Blenheim and Early Mountain wine, we ordered mac & cheese, more smoked beets and the cookie plate to go. The sour cherry shortbread jam bar in the cookie box legit caused a fork fight. OMG. Insert all the drool faces here. 10/10 would recommend every single thing we ordered on that first visit, which only makes me more eager to try the rest of the menu.

I came for the first last week (Thursday-Dinner) for a going away party. I was very impressed with the old factory upon arrival and enjoyed learning about its history! Always a plus for me! From what I believe this is a reservation only type of place. They have very large and long tables both inside and outside (I added pictures) for groups of many sizes and I'm sure even wedding receptions. That being said, there were some other things going on when we went but we sat at a table with our group. As for the ordering process they seem to prefer to bring things out to people as they come and go instead of waiting for everyone to order at once (which I like). My friend and I decided to try a little bit of everything! We had the pretzel loaf to start which was delicious! It came baked in a little loaf with salt on top and accompanied with a sweet ground mustard and a really yummy, melty, cheese dip. We also had an order of hot wings that came out hot and perfect! A little crunch, no sog, and the flavors were great! Next I had a salad which was very fresh and came already topped with a vinaigrette. I also had the grilled summer squash which came with yellow and green squash grilled and topped with olive oil. The veggies weren't overdone and the slight seasoning was perfect! We shared an order of the mushroom tacos which came with an assortment of mushrooms, veggies, enchilada sauce, and cheese inside. They were delicious! Lastly we had dessert which was also great! Their special was a mixed berry Hand Pie served warm with Ice Cream. The pie itself was amazing and the crust was flaky on the outside and warm and soft in the middle. So good. I had a cherry soda to drink but they also provide you with water and cups to drink from. My husband had a few different beers they had on tap and they came in so many sizes! Perfect for if you like to sample! All in all I would definitely go back and hope that sometime in the future I can host my own function at the Wool Factory! TIP: Right in the courtyard outside of the restaurant is a wine and cafe shop where you can find all types of items to bring home with you! Jjo

Cool open space in a reclaimed wool mill by the Rivanna river. When you make the right into the complex, be sure to make another right and drive around the bldgs. Otherwise, you'll have to navigate some steps if you make a left. They share a corner with a couple of other places, a restaurant, and I think a wine spot. I stopped in on a Sunday afternoon, and it wasn't crowded, so I grabbed a high-top by the windows. The ordering was via a QR through toasttab (if I recall correctly). You can either close it or leave a running tab but need a card either way. They didn't pour flights but were offering a smaller 6oz pour. I tried some of the current offerings and was feeling the need for some comfort food, so I went with the mac-n-cheese. Ordered items were brought to the table pretty quickly, and the folks working were friendly.

Great beer, good food, disappointing service. The chicken sandwich was good, the locally sourced hot dog had a gamey taste to it, but that’s subjective. Both beers wee very good. But the service - The server brought water right away then never came back. I saw them get out a laptop and start scrolling so I went to the bar and asked if I order there, no they do it at the table. Finally came over and we ordered. Beer and food came out at a decent time. Asked for silverware and didn’t get it until halfway through the meal when we asked again. Eventually cleared our table when we were done but never came back so we could pay. After another long wait I had to pay at the bar. I think some of this was on the sever, but I think Selvedge needs to have more than 1 sever on a Saturday, the place is big. Overall, no real desire to return. Be aware that they will add 15% to each tab automatically, and they’re upfront about it. They suggest adding an additional 5%, with this visit, it...
