Me and my Friend went here and drove about 45 minutes to get to this restaurant because it used to be so good and so worth the trip. Not anymore they have gotten really cheap with the portions, but the prices continue to stay the same or grow. I ordered the Large oxtails that comes with cabbage and rice and beans and plantains, and my friend order the combination, oxtails and brown stew, chicken with plantains, cabbage and beans and rice. The portions used to be so nice and the oxtails were really nice size but to be honest for a restaurant the quality has completely gone downhill. There’s actually a food truck in the area that you can go to and the food is cheaper and they completely fill your box of food, but here my order total came up to almost $30 hers as well and we got the littlest oxtails we ever got, barely any rice and beans, and then they just kind of put them on the top. I am attaching pictures so that you can see exactly what size these oxtails were some of them didn’t even have anything on them, but they still put them in the box when I called back in and asked the young lady at the counter if this was a large portion that I had as well as my friends order for the brown stew chicken it’s like they put a small piece of chicken along the side and chickens even less less pricey than oxtail, so I’m not sure what that was about but she didn’t know what to do she said she needed to call the manager. I asked her was there a manager there in the store that could assist and she said no, she called the manager and then called us back as we sat there and waited now having already been there over 35 minutes and the manager told her that she would be there in 10 minutes and asked us if we could wait for another 10 minutes for her arrival. This to me was already annoying because like I said we’d already been there almost an hour after driving so far and the only complaint was the oxtails were small and that at least if you could add more to make it feel like a $30 portion of food we will be OK with that And the young lady did try to help the best that she can she just has no sense of what to do and the situation, and as many restaurants as I have personally worked in as well as my friend if it was me, I would’ve just made their portion, correct But we waited. She never showed up and we never even spoke with her, but the guy who works there in the back came out and asked us were we complaining of not getting enough oxtails and I said yes he then went back in and came back with this box That has oxtails in it and we have two portions that we order and I guess his way of rectifying it was giving us four more oxtails two of them being so small He could’ve just kept them in the restaurant and then actually acted as if he done us a favor by bringing these extra four out for two different orders , if they are that cheap with their customers because their portions went down and their cost maybe has gone up that has nothing to do with people who are traveling out of their way to come to your restaurant and support it or who are making purchases . It’s almost as if they try to spread it out throughout the day instead of each customer that comes getting the portions that they should. I know that the portion size has changed you before would receive a slice of the plantains but now they’ve cut them in half and just give you 3 or 4 pieces. save your money. It isn’t worth the trip over here. There’s better places in the area. There’s one downtown that the Portions are really nice and as I said there’s a truck right here in Spotsy one that the portions are way nicer than the actual restaurant. If the guy in the restaurant can rectify the issue Why are we sitting outside an extra 10 to 15 minutes waiting on a manager to come there we’re never gonna meet because you’re going to just walk outside and hand 4 more oxtails anyways, you could’ve rectify the problem from the beginning But instead they had no value of our time and knew that we were just sitting outside with my two-year-old, who was very agitated at...
Read moreI'm a fan of Carib Shack in Virginia Beach and have been searching for similarly good Caribbean restaurant ever since. After reading the mixed reviews I hesitatingly went with my family here today. My son ordered the small mild jerk chicken with side of plantains and rice & peas. My husband and I together ordered a combo of brown chicken stew & goat curry on top of rice & peas with side of plantains and cabbage. We sat outside by the beautifully painted wall mural. Restaurant is very clean and COVID compliant. The cashier is very friendly and offered suggestions to us when my husband told him that he cannot handle food that's too spicy. The mouth watering aroma of the food hit us the minute we opened our boxes. The minute we took a bite of each item it was heaven! The jerk chicken was seasoned perfectly and the rice & peas that come with it had a kick to it. My son enjoyed his meal and the small size was actually quite big for him and he brought home the leftovers to enjoy latter on tonight. My husband couldn't resist eating the curry goat meat which falls off the bones and is packed with delicious curry flavor. It was juicy and succulent. The brown stew chicken is also very flavorful and the chicken falls off the bones too. Our rice & peas were drenched in the curries which made it even more delicious for us. My husband also enjoyed the plantains. We both loved the steamed cabbage. I usually hate cabbage but this cabbage was actually delicious to eat. Each item had its own unique flavor and this restaurant proves food doesn't need to be over the top spicy to be delicious although they do have spicier options available to those who prefer that. The curry goat really stands out for us and so does the jerk chicken! The portions are generous and the price is standard for the area restaurants. I've found my perfect Jamaican restaurant near me. We also purchased two rum cakes which we have not eaten yet so I cannot comment on their taste. I'll update later. Can't wait to visit Taste of Trelawny again. —————————————————————— Well folks hubby & I visited the restaurant again for my fix of curry goat with side of cabbage, plantains & rice and peas again. Same consistently delicious taste as when we first visited. You know the restaurant is good when they cook food with same consistency. Next visit I’m going to be more brave & try their...
Read moreTonight was our first night ordering from Taste of Trelawny. We pass by regularly and have wanted to try their food for a while. We even pulled in to eat one evening and happened to catch them closed. So when we ended up with a gift certificate with Grub Hub and saw them as one of the options, we decided to finally give them a try.
We placed our order for jerk chicken, ox-tail, and coco bread. I quickly received a call letting me know that they were out of the jerk chicken. Since this was our first meal with them, and this was the only thing on the menu that my wife really wanted, we almost cancelled our order. We would have still ordered again another day, but when they had the jerk chicken available.
We were offered to change the jerk chicken to curry chicken or their brown stew. She decided to go with the curry chicken, after checking to make sure it wasn't spicy.
Grubhub delivered the order reasonably quickly. We each ordered the rice with peas, plantains, and cabbage and carrots as our sides. We tried the plantains and cabbage and carrots, which were delicious. Next, we both tried each of the ox-tail and curry chicken. Both meals were so tender and falling off the bone. The flavor was outstanding and we immediately knew we would be coming back to try their other options. We didn't know what to expect from the coco bread, but it was a thin small loaf of very soft bread, maybe a little over an inch thick, with almost a pita bread exterior. The bread was a little sweet, but otherwise just a great white loaf of bread. It went perfectly with the meal.
We were still a little disappointed that we didn't get to try the jerk chicken, but even more surprised when we received a notice from Grubhub after our meal that the entire cost of the jerk chicken was refunded, so we ended up getting the curry chicken for free.
We are both sold on going back, and plan to eat there in person soon. Hopefully we can try the jerk chicken then! Thanks a bunch to everyone at a Taste of Trelawny. They are one of the closest restaurants to us, and we will...
