Review in a nutshell: froo-from diners, move on! This place is only for those who love awesome food from a greasy-spoon hole in the wall and wouldnt have it any other way!
Griff's sustained our family for nearly a week while we waited for our moving truck to arrive. We ate breakfast here first and were impressed with the quantity and quality of the food. This is definitely a hole-in-the-wall kind of place that looked questionable to. But I could not go another day of horrible service and food from the McDonald's down the road, so we took a chance. Man, oh, man, I'm so glad we did!! I've tried a variety of things on their menu, but my favorite is the catfish. One of the staff bragged they had the best catfish in town, and let me just say - I didn't bother to try catfish anywhere else because Griff's has it nailed down!
My husband's favorite is the Chopped BBQ sandwich, but we've tried the country fried steak, the philly cheesesteak, the chopped bbq plate, a couple burgers, and a plain Turkey and cheese sandwich. All of it is such great food! And the price? Unbeatable! This is our regular go-to place for meals when we don't feel like pizza or cooking. Highly recommend, but dont be expecting a 5-star restaurant by any means. Seating is cafeteria style with long tables and several 4-seater hard-bench booths (the kind you'd see at Chubbies on "Boy Meets World"). You clean up after yourself, scraping your scraps into a big trashcan and leaving your plates and utensils in a collection cart, but honestly, Griff's wouldn't be Griff's without this kind of self-service! Oh, and Friday nights? AYCE...
Read moreOne of the best places to eat in Waco. I've been dining here for well over a decade. Sadly, the service has seemed to be slipping over the years. I've had 3 separate orders where they have forgotten one of my side dishes. 5/5 stars. Feb 2024.
Edited review: The service continues to slip here, which is a shame. Now instead of forgetting a side order, the food is no longer being cooked to a safe or edible quality. Griff's has always been one of my preferred eateries, but the last time I went here, they gave me a pink and raw hamburger. I took my order to go, and it takes me about 15 minutes to get to Griff's and then 15 minutes to get back home. I discovered the raw food and called them. The person on the line informed me that I could "bring it back and show us, and we can cook you a new one, but that is about all we can do". It took me 30 minutes to get my food the first time. It would then take an additional 30 minutes (totalling in an hour of drive time) just to get what I originally paid for. The wasted time and gas was not worth the hassle to me. Had I perhaps been given a credit or something, I would have considered good customer service to mend a multitude of sins, but the ball was dropped there as well. As proof, please see below what was served to me. I fear if things get much worse, they may not pass health inspection or do irreparable damage to what has been a decades long name in Waco.
Edit: I tried calling a few times. Management never picked up or made this...
Read moreWe have eaten breakfast here for years without incident. Today the staff member who took our order made a mistake. Our order wasn't processed due to the error. When we asked repeatedly about our order, we were told "we're working on it." Truth was the staff member who took our order had handed us the order ticket so the cooks had no record. When I found the ticket on our table and presented it to them, they proceeded to yell at us, never admitting the error was their fault. We were told we would have to wait until after all the other orders, despite the fact it was their fault and they hadn't been truthful , not admitting they didn't have the order. We had to leave after waiting so long so they screamed at us across the dining room: "Well leave, and don't come back next weekend!" As we were leaving they were dispersing derogatory remarks about us so loudly the whole place could hear. They knew we are good, regular weekend customers yet they treat like that. Well, we WERE good, regular customers. We'd always liked Griff's, but NO excuse for staff to treat any...
