We were craving seafood and reviews were great for this place, so we decided to come by after a day at the waterpark. Good thing we had two families with us because we were able to try many more dishes than we would've if it was just us. Since it was our first time there, we had everything explained to us by a very nice, patient lady behind the counter. So, you order at the counter choosing from their big menu of items. Don't forget to ask what their specials are! Then you pay, find a seat at one of the benches, they bring your food out to the table and you can ooh and ah at the food while stuffing your faces. We ended up ordering the following:
-Sea bass special - This was really good! The fish was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Since we shared everything, I really only had a two-bite chunk. If we didn't have so much other food, I would've ordered another one all to myself. This came with rice.
Fried Soft Shell crab - fried well. I've had ones that were larger and with a tastier type breading to it, but for the price this one wasn't bad at all.
1 lb of fried scallops - The scallops were bite sized, not the humungous ones, but you get a whole bunch in 1lb and they had a light crispy breading to it which we really liked.
sauteed shrimp - This was a big hit. We ordered it with veggies, it came with rice and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. Everyone loved it! We got around 8 large sized shrimp in the half pound order and good thing we ordered two because the kids ended up eating the whole 1/2 lb order.
Ribs - Very tender with a nice smokey flavor and tangy sauce which we all said was finger licking good! Came with steak fries and coleslaw. Really liked the sweet coleslaw!
Cajun chicken tenders - I didn't get to try these, as they were all gone by the time I wanted to get to them. According to everyone else who was lucky to get a piece (or two!), they were really tender and nicely seasoned.
Fried Mushrooms - Juicy. Oysters on a half shell - Fresh!
Would love to head back there again soon to try some of their fish and frog legs! HIGHLY RECOMMEND if you like eating seafood in a casual setting. Word of caution regarding the parking lot. Looks like the lot is shared by 2-3 restaurants. It was dark and so we didn't read the sign closely. Ended up first going into a different restaurant next door called Shanty (?) and then realized our mistake only because the DH had seen a pic of the actual restaurant online and it didn't look right. The other family ended up going into the two other restaurants first before finding the correct entrance to CP. So if you park in the lot, walk towards the edge of the lot all the way to the corner where the...
Read moreMy first visit to Captain Porky's was lackluster and doesn't necessarily warrant another visit based on our experience.
The ordering experience very much seemed like organized chaos when we first entered the location especially for a person making their first visit. We entered and it seemed like there was a line that deemed a counter service type scenario. The people working the counter seemed to take orders in a few different places and never really the same one at any given time so we were very confused on where to go. We were called from the line and were able to get in our order though.
Once we got all of the orders in for everyone we were able to put a few tables together thankfully and get into a smaller room area where we got everyone seated. The person that rang us up let us know that they would bring our order out to us. Once we found a seat I let the person that wrote our ticket up know that we were in the smaller room to make things easy to which I heard our name would be called. Turns out they do both just FYI. They were very nice workers on the friendly side so that helped.
The food was brought out and this is where things fell apart for us as far as the food temperature. The food was luke warm unfortunately which really took everything down for us. The pulled pork, bbq chicken, cornbread, and even the fries all were warm at best. The bbq sauce was just ok and didn't really stand out. It was all just ok and with the experience at the beginning it just seemed to fall flat with everyone.
I will say that their cheesecake would really be the only reason I would return as it was good and very generous portions on that end. We also got the peanut butter cup which was ok, but at the end didn't really seem to blend well, it was more of a chocolate with a spoonful of peanut butter put in it. Overall it was ok with the major highlight being their cheesecake selection, that was very good but the main course being the level mentioned downgraded...
Read moreBeen to captain porky's twice. I have always wanted to try the food there since I drive by all the time and see it. I was happy and excited to finally get food from there my first time because I thought the food would be really good. My Fiance and I's first experience we got the stuffed crab shrimp it was nasty really couldn't eat it. Shrimp tasted like it was frozen not fresh at all just wasn't good for me. Also we had a extra large rib tip meal and large size lobster mac and cheese. The lobster mac was pretty good the first time. The sides that came with the rib meal was decent ribs ok more on the sweet side that time then savory, but I would rather stick to Hillary's to be honest. Our second time there we ordered combo meal rib tips, fried shrimp, and a large lobster mac and cheese. This time lobster mac was disgusting dry and rubbery on top like it's been sitting for a while or something it was also over salted. The ribs were savory this time how I like it better the greens was not as good as the 1st time didn't eat it and the fried shrimp the same tasted too fishy and smell too fishy for me. They should have known better than to serve that lobster mac to a paying customer like that. Maybe it was because it was an hour before close, but still. I called to tell them about it and it's like they already knew so they know what they did for them to serve me that like it was OK, but they did say they would give me a credit and give me another losbter mac and cheese let's see if any good next time. Last time I will be spending any more money there. My first time I went I spent 60 something dollars this time it was almost 50 and I'm getting low quality food I could spend way less money somewhere else and get good tasting food. Did receive a call this morning Apologizing for the incident and they did talk to the workers and will replace the food so that's really nice they all sound very nice there I think the food is maybe a...
