I have frequently gone to Kasai for their sushi, rice noodle bowls, soups, appetizers, etc. I am rarely disappointed with the quality of their food and the experience at their restaurant. My most recent visit here proved to be different and not in a good way sadly. I came with a group of 3 other people and I decided to order the wasabi shumai (pork and wasabi mini dumplings), dynamite (spicy scallops and imitation crab), and the volcano roll. My friends ordered sushi rolls such as the sweet potato tempura, crouching tiger (wrapped in yellow soy wrap), etc. We also shared some of the vegetable fried rice. In terms of what was good and what was not, all of the sushi was fairly good with the exception of the volcano roll. On appearance, the volcano roll was beautifully made but it was painfully obvious upon eating it there was something not quite right with the seafood. I did not get sick from it but it left me feeling a bit uneasy with a sort of "off" taste to it. I've had a lot of seafood in my sushi and nothing has ever tasted as funky as this particular roll. All of the other sushi rolls seemed to be good from what I sampled. I also was surprised that my appetizer called "dynamite" did not live up to its name as it usually does. Once again, it was beautifully dressed but the temperature was barely warm. This sort of dish has been served hot in the past but deviated this time. The wasabi shumai and fried rice were perfectly fine and I had no problem with them from a taste or temperature standpoint. Overall the visit was disappointing and makes me slightly apprehensive of their seafood going forward. The server did make good on the bad "volcano roll" and took 10% off the bill to make up for it. I would not recommend this roll since there are many other good ones. As always, if something doesn't taste right, you're probably right! Side note, be careful when ordering the "hot tea" because the cup it comes in has no handle and the cups are so "thin" that the heat permeates them easily giving quite the jolt if your pick up your tea cup too soon. The tea is still good though, I believe it is...
Read moreKasai Is my absolute favorite sushi place. My husband and I have been going here for 6 years. We actually had our very first date here so it has a special place in our hearts. The food is delicious. Best sushi around. But the issue is the staff. Service has been declining for about the past 3 years sadly. We keep going back to give them another try but it’s never improved. Tonight we waited 25 minutes for a seat, not bad at all for a family of 5. Then when we got to our table we waited 20 minutes and no waiter showed up to get our drink order. My husband told the owner and he said “yeah, yeah”. Then 10 minutes later a waiter came to the table. And service after that was decent. We had a 1.5 year old with us who after all of this was still very well behaved. When we got the check we asked our 10 and 1. Year old to walk the toddler to the front and wait for us. In true toddler fashion he ran to the front laughing as if it was a game with his sisters and a staff member informed our kids that this was a restaurant and to return to their seats. ((We were finishing paying and picking up to leave.)) as we left a fellow customer yelled out to me about how I did a great job NOT watching my child. First off, had the staff been on top of things we would have been in and out quickly and my son wouldn’t have been tired. Second, you don’t allow other customers to act that way. The One time my child ran by your table could not have ruined your meal, get over yourselves please.
After this we will not be returning. I am so sad about this choice but I’m tired of spending our hard earned money on a place that is aatracting a low class of customers who think it’s okay to be rude to others and for staff that doesn’t take care of the customers. This place was amazing before the second location opened. So sad that it has...
Read moreFood is very good, but be VERY careful ordering things off the online menu. I have shellfish allergy and I ordered a Sumo roll which per the website should have been "Spicy tuna avocado cucumber rolled up top w. tuna avocado. eel sauce spicy mayo & tempura flakes. " and what I got was something entirely different with what I thought was crab in it, and definitely no tuna, eel sauce, tempura flakes or cucumber. I called immediately and I was told by someone from the kitchen that "the menu ingredients listed don't always match the ingredients in the actual roll that you get". This made me rather upset given the risk of swapping ingredients to those with food allergies. Wasted some money but thankfully I didn't get anything I'm highly allergic to. I can understand if its something minor but to swap out 80% of a roll, and to change the fish from Tuna to imitation crab is absurd. I wasted ~$95 on that, since I couldn't identify the rest of the ingredients in the food,I had to trash the rest of my order.
Like I said, food is excellent, but be sure to ask when you order if the ingredients on the website match the actual rolls when...
