Stopped by the morning on June 27th with my friend as we were really hoping to find a new regular place to stop off when we are on the coast for a good, local burger. Sadly we were both terribly disappointed by the level of service as well as the mediocre food.
Both myself and my friend felt incredibly ignored during our visit. I ordered the jalapeno burger with coleslaw for myself and the regular cheese burger for my friend, as she is deaf and it was easier for me to order for her. The person that took our order asked if we would be sitting outside and that she would be bringing us water shortly.
We sat outside and were completely ignored for about 20 minutes, no water, no condiments or anything. After sitting in the warm sun for that long, I went in and got the water myself. Finally our food came and the server told us that she would return with condiments and utensils. Again, another 10 minute wait before I took it upon myself to go inside and get them so we could enjoy our food while it was hot. The server was nice and very apologetic.
The burgers were pretty OK, nothing to write home about. My coleslaw side definitely was off. It had a fermented and sour taste as well as a bitter smell. It was even bubbling a little as it was definitely fermenting. The chips were your standard store-bought kettle chips and the least disappointing aspect of the entire meal.
At no point did any server ever stop by and ask how we liked our food or if we needed anything, etc. Honestly, my friend may have felt a bit excluded because she is deaf. We both watched the other tables all around us being served and waited on while we both had to go inside and fetch everything ourselves which, along with the sour coleslaw, left a bad taste in our mouths.
We will probably not go here again. For the price, there are too many other options on the coast for a burger. I made the mistake of tipping when I ordered rather than tipping an appropriate amount commensurate with the...
Read moreThis was my 3rd visit to this restaurant. I am still unimpressed, although the tables and chairs improved.
I had wanted breakfast but they stop serving breakfast at 11:30 which is when we arrived, soooo....
I ordered a 3 cheese grilled cheese sandwich for $10 to which I added bacon and avocado so it was not an inexpensive sandwich. I also requested mozarella instead of blue cheese. I ordered coleslaw as the side that came with.
When it arrived the bread was barely buttered and grilled, it was not warm and the paltry amount of cheeses on it were not melted. The cheddar showed no sign of meltage and the shredded mozzarella was visible still in shreds. I was disappointed and sent it back after waiting for a server for quite awhile. It came back a bit warmer, more melted and grilled a little darker but still weak on the cheese side. (I took half home, added more cheese and regriiled it til the cheese oozed like it's supposed to). The bacon and avocado additions were good.
But, if a restaurant is charging $10 for GRILLED CHEESE, the cheese, as the STAR OF THE SANDWICH, should be plentiful and MELTED.
The high point was the cole slaw which was fresh and delicious.
The coffee was good and was replenished when requested.
I also tried their brownie which looked good ($3), but it was quite dry and crumbly. I took it home and put ice cream on it so it wasn't so dry.
My companion who had a salad was pleased with her selection.
My takeaway is, I would go here again if my companion wanted to, but I would not recommend or visit again myself.
Sidebar: I've been eating grilled cheese sandwiches for over 65 years and making them using all kinds of different breads and cheese combos for over 60 years...It's ALWAYS important to have plenty of cheese inside and grill it til the cheese oozes just a bit. NEVER scrimp on the cheese in a grilled cheese sandwich and, for goodness sake, make sure the...
Read moreToday we ate at the hill top cafe. We ordered at the counter and tipped 20%. Then…..we got our meal. Smart of them to make you pay first. Beware..tip after you get served food and how the server treats you. We got our two meals. Everything was good except the potatoes. They were COLD , and CHEWY and had burnt pieces of probably onion that tasted of old grease. When I asked the server how long they had been cooked she said they were in the steam table and walked away with no acknowledgement or apology or offer of new ones. I then asked if I could have a plate to take them off our plate. She gave us one and promptly walked away and we were ignored after that. The potatoes were never removed and neither were our empty plates. Sure we wait on ourselves for coffee…but why ignore us because we were not happy with the potato’s? We paid enough for the food and the tip. I was a waitress for 15 years and a cook for 5 in the same place. We were taught to make our customers happy and be quick to make things right and especially be nice and apologize. Needless to say..how we were treated was more upsetting the. The nasty potatoes. With all this being said, we will not be back. But don’t tip until after you have had your dining experience. Very disappointing. We ate here in 2024and we were very happy with the food. We know there are always mistake and that is ok. But make it right instead of acting like we are no good customers that have no right...
