We made the trip down to Walton on Fatherâs Day after seeing lots of buzz about Kelly Qâs Whippy Dip on Facebookâand weâre so glad we did. This place absolutely delivered on its promise of classic diner goodness.
I went with Combo #2: two eggs, pancakes, and a choice of meat. The pancakes were excellentâfluffy, golden, and cooked just right. The eggs (ordered over medium) were near perfection, which is no small feat. So many places miss the mark, but not here. Both the bacon and sausage were solidâexactly what youâd want from a hearty breakfast.
My fiancĂ© had the country fried steak combo, which was a standout. The breading on the steak was delicious, and the steak itself was incredibly tender. Again, eggs were cooked perfectly, and the biscuit and gravy? A real treat. The gravy was a tad thick for our taste, but thatâs a small note, likely more about our regional preferences than the recipe itselfâit still had great flavor.
One of the things we loved most? It was super fun to see a restaurant with true regularsâpeople who clearly come often and are greeted like family. Even when we left, they told us goodbye, too. That kind of warmth and community is rare and made the whole experience even better.
Despite it being Fatherâs Day, we had no wait to be seated. It did take about 20 minutes to get our food, but thatâs totally understandable on a holiday and well worth it for the quality.
If you love that nostalgic, old-school diner atmosphere, youâll love Kelly Qâs. Donât let the drive from Union deter youâitâs a super easy on-and-off from the interstate. Plus, Walton has some fun places to explore while youâre down there.
Weâll absolutely be backâcanât wait to try more of their savory dishes and (weâve heard!) their...
Read moreAttempted to dine in at the bar on 10/27 for breakfast. Order a coffee black, water, chocolate milk, 1 pancake, 2 sausage patties, a goetta omelette, and an order of biscuits and gravy. The crowd inside was moderate so I wasnât minding the wait til it hit 30 mins. People after us had come and gone while my son and I waited on our food. I asked the server if the wait would be too much longer and she said, âno, about 5 minsâ I said thatâs fine. About 5 mins later (35 mins total) she tells us that they ran out of gravy and it would be an additional 10 mins or so. So I just canceled the biscuits and gravy, assuming that the rest of our food would be out in just a few minutes as she stated. We waited another 10 mins and I was watching the female owner worry about door dash orders over the orders of inside customers. We cancelled our order and left. I would t have been this upset had they just said something sooner instead of wasting an hour of my Sunday morning before I had to go into work. Our server was really nice and comped our drinks for us and she was the only positive light on the experience. I would not recommend this place if you are in a hurry or expect your food to be fresh because I watched them let food sit on the counter for 10+ mins then throw it in the microwave. This isnât the first time my wait for service has been...
Read moreI had the sampler plate. Which was pulled pork, 3 ribs, baked beans, potatoe salad, sweet potatoes. Wife got a burger and fries it was really good. I sampled a smoked drum stick that was phenomenal. The potatoe salad was fresh and had great flavor it mustard based. The baked beans were great too such a different flavor from normal id never think of cinnamon in baked beans but its there and tastes great. The sweet potatoes were melt in your mouth soft and not super sweet. Onto the ribs they are tender with solid smoke flavor. The pulled pork was solid it was tender and everything youd expect it to be. The bbq sauce was homemade and was nice shade of burgundy red without a heavy vinegar or tomato paste taste. The milk shakes are worth mentioning also too the signature is a peanut butter milkshake but they have specials such as...
