If anyone's ever read my reviews, you'll know that I always do my best to be fair & honest. I have heard many things about Hanna Devine's since they first opened. Mixed reviews, many positive. I really wanted to like them, as I'm definitely a fan of supporting small town businesses. What I can say about it from first experience was that it was really disappointing! First time trying their food last night. We ordered it to go. We weren't very hungry (my fiance & I) so we looked over the (very limited) menu & decided on splitting a French onion soup & pierogi's off the appetizer menu. We also ordered a few things for someone else to go, who has been before & enjoys the food. When calling, the gentleman who took my order was pleasant & gave me a total, but no time frame on how long a wait until our food would be ready, which would've been helpful. We live one town over, so we waited a few minutes before leaving & headed to Hanna's. Upon entering, we noticed it looked exactly like the former restaurant that was there prior to HD's. Large bar that's centered in the one somewhat large dining room, some tables around it. The hostess was friendly, and asked how to help us, when I explained we had ordered ahead over the phone. She disappeared & returned with the food & another male staff member, apparently there was some confusion because our order was under the name Eric & they also had an order for an "Erica". They talked amongst themselves, before giving me my total, I paid cash with a $50, the cost was $42+ change so we waited for our change for what seemed like a bit long a time. We noticed that our hostess was waiting behind the bar, but even once the change was in her hand, she took her time returning it to us while she made conversation with nearby staff & patrons. Kind of rude when customers are waiting to leave with their food I thought. It didn't appear very busy yet either, despite it being New Year's Eve (it was fairly early evening). We then left & decided to eat in our car, because we aren't comfortable yet with dining out due to Covid. We opened our to go boxes, immediately confused at the amount of food, soon realizing they had given us our order + more. They accidentally gave us someone's steak tips which we didn't order, but at that point we didn't bother going back, because we knew that they couldn't take it back anyhow & were already a distance from the restaurant. The pierogi's were smothered in onions, we both love onions, but this was still overkill! I was also very disappointed to taste what seemed like frozen pierogi's thrown in the microwave, served luke warm & rubbery. The onions were sauteed, but somehow very bland. The potato filling was "edible" but they were not very authentic tasting. I really didn't taste any difference than the frozen kind you buy at the grocery store to be honest. If you're going to have Polish food, it should at least be authentic, or if not, at least deep fry or pan sear them for better flavor & texture. They were chewy & unappealing. I am Polish & grew up eating some much better pierogi's, so this bummed me out. My fiance was also not impressed. Next up, the worst part was the French onion soup! Correct me if I'm wrong, but soup normally contains broth, right? This was literally a container full of lukewarm onions, again no flavor, with literally 0 broth, very little bread or cheese. Usually with this kind of soup, it is generously smothered in cheese, I actually had to spoon through the heap of onions to even locate what little cheese there was. I thought halfway through the onions, there might be some broth, but no such luck. Very much a disappointment! Did they forget to add broth? I've ordered French onion at many restaurants over the years, as it's a favorite of mine & never had any like this (and unfortunately, not in a good way!) It was all onions, usually it's a nice mixture of broth, cheese, bread & onions, but this was just like eating onions with barely anything more. I ate maybe 3 bites. Overall, we didn't care for the food & don't plan on...
Read moreWe've been here for lunch on multiple visits to Ware. The servers have been really helpful, friendly, and on top of things. The food, however, has been right on the edge of "okay" -- sometimes better than okay, and sometimes a lot worse. My wife has found a couple of dishes that she likes, but that hasn't been the case for me. I find the prices extraordinarily high for what are sometimes small portions that are hastily plated, uninteresting, and flavorless. As one example, the fish and chips cost three times as much as you would pay anywhere else in Europe, Canada, or the U.S.A., and yet they serve are about half the portion at one third the quality you would receive in any of those other places. My wife and I do agree, however, that the side of coleslaw with that dish is very tasty.
The kitchen also does not seem interested in "meeting a customer where they are." If you have any feedback or concerns about your food -- or want it to be redone they way you initially asked when ordering, rather than the default results from the kitchen -- you will be asked to pay for a redo. That's pretty unacceptable in my experience, but it aligns with my final conclusions about what Hanna Devine's primary concerns appear to be (see last paragraph of this review).
On a more positive note, food does come out very quickly from the kitchen, and the alcoholic beverages are generously poured.
Judging by high prices and low quality ingredients used in dishes and beverages at Hanna Devine's, I get the distinct impression that maximizing profits with substandard fare is a primary objective of this business, and that customer concerns or requests simply don't matter. I could of course be wrong, as other reviewers clearly have not had the same experience, but all-in-all this restaurant has left an unpleasant taste...
Read moreI want to start by saying the friend who suggested this place loves it here. Our experience could have been a lot better. The waitress was rude and a bit snooty with us. We were a party of 4 and one of our party asked for no chipotle sauce on her chicken. The sauce was put on and they took it back and cooked her a while new meal. Another meal was braised brussel sprouts and chicken. The brussell sprouts were completely raw and hard. The waitress said she would let the cook "know". The chicken was very plain and dry and she did not eat her meal. When the other meal, cooked again with no suace was brought back she was told it was taken off the bill. It was delicious but we were all done eating and it was very late so she had it wrapped to go. When the waitress asked how everything was we discussed the uncooked vegetables and dry chicken. She immediately turned to us and asked how were the meals on this half of the table. Like that half was too picky. My friend spoke up and said she was not please with her meal and didn't eat it. The waitress was not happy and said "what would make you happy, you didn't tell me about the chicken" when asked to remove it from the bill, our waitress said she would need to talk to the manager and never said another word to us. It was removed, but we only found out when the check was put down in front of us. I will not...
