Legitimately the worst Mexican food I have ever had, the little I had of it anyways.
I ordered a chimichanga, there was nothing in the chimichanga except for steak, so picture long strips of tough, well done steak and fried tortilla, that's what it was. They put "queso" on the top that had no flavor to it, it might as well have been water.
On the side, there was rice and refried beans. Everything seemed mircowaved, the rice was bland and tasted like wood shavings and I didn't touch the refried beans, they looked gross. My wife and daughter's food did not fare any better, for example my daughter got a chicken and cheese quesadilla, there was only a small chicken right at the very end of it, the rest was just cheese.
They give you chips and salsa which is nice, but the tortilla chips are not good, completely unsalted and the salsa is super watery, although some people dig that. My wife got a coconut margarita that was good.
Now onto the service. It is Mother's Day, so okay, I get there will be a bit of a wait, even though there were plenty of open tables. We were told 10-15 minutes, it ended up being almost 30. Another group that was waiting ended up just leaving, and the staff seemed happy to see them go. Our waiter was nice, none of it was his fault of course.
Overall, this is a place to avoid. There is a Taco Bell almost next door that I would have enjoyed immensely more, and that's sad to say. It doesn't seem like they take any real pride in what they are putting out. I've worked in kitchens and would never be okay with serving that food to anyone and charging for it, especially not for their prices. It really put a damper on Mother's Day, and we will not be back.
Y'all, I get that it's Ware. It's not like there are a lot of options, most people aren't going to drive out to Worcester to go to Pepe's or Mezcal or wherever, expectations should probably be adjusted accordingly, but I went in with lowered expectations and was still the most disappointed I have been in a dine-in restaurant in at...
Read moreI’m not one to say bad things about places because I know what it’s like. In fact, this is the first bad review I have ever written. I have a food allergy and have been to this Mexicali before and they were very kind and accommodating and made sure there were no allergens at all in my dinner (take out). Today my boyfriend and I dined in to celebrate our anniversary and I explained right away what my allergy was and the server ( I wish I remembered her name) was awesome. She was so kind, accommodating, and apologetic. However, the kitchen staff was ignorant in the fact that they brought me a plate with multiple things on it that had my allergen! Our waiter came out to inform me that I should not eat what was in front of me after I already started eating it. At that point my full meal wasn’t out, I had still had chicken to come for my Fajita. When she told me that I should stop eating what I had, she also told me that the chicken the kitchen was cooking for me had my allergen in it and wasn’t even cooked in a separate pan as it is supposed to after she said she had told them MULTIPLE times about my allergy. They are so lucky that all I am doing is writing a bad review and they are also lucky that my allergy doesn’t go as far as anaphylactic shock because they could have killed someone. All of this and the manager didn’t even come to speak to us! We got a whole $5 off of our order and some extra ice cream with our desert that we decided to pay for and take home along with our meals. Very very grateful for our server but very disappointed in management and...
Read moreWow... Been a while since I've had this good of an experience eating out. Mexicali restaurants are typically decent food and service so I expected to at least enjoy it. They were dead, so I feared we might be forgotten (sometimes happens as a waitress / waiter...can get complacent in slow times).
Got chicken chimichunga (husband got ground beef). Each got a cocktail and we opted for the "large fresh" side of guacamole. Happy I did because she rolled a cart on over and made it up sidecar. The quality of the ingredients was surprisingly good and it's definitely the best guacamole I've ever had.
Food came fast, entrees were obviously fried in good, clean oil (again something I only noticed because it was just that good).
Waiter had good timing and everything was as ordered. Waitress who did the sidecar guac was the same.
All in all, a meal that I was expecting to be just good turned out to be a memorable experience. Highly recommend it and will post again next time we go here. I'm curious if the service and food quality...
