The old Margarita King is no more. Now called Compadres, we brought our 13-person group here after a long day at Nelson Ledges. Our server handled our group with an excellent attitude despite some of our people's particular food requests. :) Let's start with the positives: Our food came out (as requested) when ready, not sitting somewhere until all was prepared. The 'street corn' was outstanding, I'll get my own next time instead of sharing. :) Everything was flavorful, including the salsa. The french fries (!) were the bomb! Perfectly cooked and seasoned and fresh. The mediocre: the tortilla chips are unseasoned, thick and dry. Basically a simple delivery system for the salsa. Our baskets seemed to be mostly filled with broken pieces which were hard to dip into the salsa bowls. We'd really appreciate freshly made, thinner, salted chips. The margarita flight was in small juice glasses, not the rocks glasses pictured on the menu. Not a good value for the price although tasty. The California Burrito was advertised as 'buttered crispy' but was fairly dry - and I had to hunt to find any chicken in it. It also had plenty of diced red onion (yuck) not mentioned on the menu. So I won't be craving that anytime soon. Overall, it seems that only the name has changed. The exterior, the decor, the fixtures are all the same as Margarita King. Tables still kind of sticky. But that's okay, so...
Read moreWe absolutely loved this place! Everyone was wonderful here, from the hostess, to waitress, to the entertainment. When asked how many when we walked in, I always answer two and half and the hostess saw us come in and said "two and half" I couldn't believe, I loved it!
Our waitress was full of smiles and energy and so nice. She came back to our table multiple times, was friendly and patient with our four year old, and had no problems bringing me little to-go containers for the queso we'd ordered, but brought me extra for the salsa we had and then brought us extra chips to go!
While we were there, they had a gentleman playing the guitar and singing. It was so nice to have live music while we were eating and he was very good. He saw how entranced our son was and at one point brought his hand instrument (kind of like maracas) over during a set and let my son give it a shot while he sang and played his guitar.
All the food we ordered was good, filling, and great prices. The steak in the fajitas was delicious. I tried a chimichanga for the first time and was not let down. So good! It was our first visit there and definitely not our last.
I hadn't had fried ice cream in a few years and am so happy I didn't pass on it during our visit....
Read moreI review and post the good 1st. The waitress was friendly and attentive and did a good job making sure we had what was needed. The atmosphere was good as well, not many ppl in the restaurant at the time about 5pm. Now, the not so good part of the review. The food was brought out piping hot, but the seasonings and all were not there. It was very bland, not much flavor other than putting jalapeños and hot sauce on the dinner. The tortilla Chips were not warm and seemed as though they had sat out or basically didn't have the correct crispy crunch you would normally get at other Mexican Restaurants. There isn't many restaurants on that side of town anymore. Be nice to see them succeed and become a happening place for Mexican Food. I believe if they can get the correct Mexican Taste on their dishes, I believe they can go far and succeed in a dying city. The restaurant was clean and kept up, ready for business and customers. They have a nice patio out front to sit and eat as well. Waitress and staff were friendly. Prices not too shabby, just need to get the Mexican taste Into the food, like I said just very...
