We came in since the name of the place sounded good. It wasn’t busy and we were told to have a seat by one person who didn’t relay that there were two of us to the server. I sat while my husband went to the bathroom and the table smelled like mildew. We probably should have left then but I thought “I don’t eat off the table and maybe their rag just needed to be better cleaned.” I was asked if I wanted coffee which I answered as “No, I have had too much this morning already.” She handed me a menu and took the coffee cups. I was waiting for my husband and we had a long drive so was not thinking that I should say there are two of us. If we were seated properly, we would have had our two menus and there would have been less running around for our servers. My husband got to the table and we shared the menu until person who greeted us at the door noticed and offered another one and then let the server know “Yeah, there are two of them.” When our server retuned, she asked my husband what he’d like to drink but didn’t follow up with me before walking away. I had to get her attention so I could get a soda which tasted like the soap they sanitize their dishes with and then ordered chili and salad. The chili was good but could use a little more spice and the salad dressing was milk and mayonnaise as Ranch, not much flavor. We had one napkin which my husband asked me for and the person who greeted us at the door noticed me passing it to him. This time but didn’t offer to get us extra ones until I asked. While leaving; another couple came out saying “F that B” and angrily left. They weren’t rude to us, just inattentive. As we were getting in our truck, our serving waitress came out with another persons coat to ask if it were ours. We sat in the back but she got the coat from a table by the front door, maybe it was the angry couples that hightailed it...
Read moreArnies's was an incredibly pleasant surprise. We live in Astoria, the neighboring town, and it is, in an area, rife with fresh seafood and fish, among so many other ingredients, the epicenter of restaurants striving toward mediocrity Arnie's is the bright light at the end of a very sad tunnel. The interior is contemporary, casual, and clean. Very clean, in fact. All the condiment containers on all the tables were visibly clean and neatly arranged. It was busy for a Wednesday afternoon at 2:30, and after dining there, I'm not surprised. The staff is friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable about their product. The place runs very smoothly, and it's clear that the staff is happy; laughing smiling cooks in the open kitchen and seemingly happy front of house staff as well. There's great energy in there! Now to THE FOOD! The plates are big and beautiful! I ordered a short stack of pancakes, thinking it would be a couple of 6 inch long pancakes and hot damn! Was I wrong. It was 2, foot long, perfectly fluffy, expertly prepared, buttermilk pancakes. It took me 3 days to finish eating them, and I made sure I did. My man had precisely, deliciously cooked over-medium eggs, a rarity at best, so kudos to the cook for that alone. He also had the Biscuits and Gravy with Arnie's signature gravy, chock full of sausage and bacon, and served over light and crunchy biscuits the size of softballs. It took me 2 days to finish eating that, too. The food was phenomenally good! I highly recommend a visit to Arnie's. I can't wait to go back for lunch. Arnie...
Read moreEvery once in a while, I encounter a place that whose food has such exceptional flavor, it blows me away. My wife and I found Arnie's, first by accident (driving by it, closed), then on purpose (after seeing some of the glowing recommendations.
The food may look like any other diner but the taste is wonderful, beyond any other place in memory. I had the chicken fried steak- tender cube steak, breaded and fried, undoubtedly in butter. It's served along side perfectly crispy/tender hash browns, and the gravy is magnificent.
My wife and I agreed to split a cinnamon roll. It was huge, heavenly-light but the butter frosting made it delightfully sinful. Combo it for 3.50 extra and get perfect eggs, bacon, and toast.
And they serve Raven's Brew coffee: dark, rich and smooth while still packing a powerful punch. Check out their "Dead Man's Reach" .
The staff was wonderfully attentive while still shining in their attitude and personality. I would go out of my way for this place, and the number of WA plates in their OR establishment tells me I'm not the only one. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. You will...
