(Extensive golf course review) A tale of two golf courses, the Bucks Club offers 18-holes with a front nine in the traditional and forgiving side-by-side hole arrangement, then weaves you through a development surrounded back-nine that escapes the “100-year old golf course” feel you might get from the front side-by-sides. Both nines offer interesting looks and challenging features, but your hook onto the next fairway on the front turns into a lost ball in the woods on the back. An excellent practice facility includes the large putting green and range, but the popularity of the course makes afternoon rounds a challenge to book for the “touring amateur”, as the course supports several leagues that consume the majority of twilight tee times. Look for downtimes and iffy weather days if you want a shorter than 5-hour round. If the course was empty, it would probably take around 3 hours to play with a cart. Large greens with interesting undulations provide plenty of challenge, but as with other older course, the “stay-in-front-of-the-hole” rule holds true, as many downhill putts will roll off the numerous false fronts. I think EVERY green has one! Land so you put uphill! Condition typically runs from good to excellent, with rough left punishingly long. Don’t complain, you should have left it in the fairway. On the day I played the course and wrote this, I started as a single, but was soon paired with a twosome competing probably for the thousandth time. In the twosome was none other than the owner of the course, who had no idea I was taking pictures and planning to write this review. Even though he apologized in advance for cursing (he says he curses a lot playing golf, but who doesn’t) the owner and the older man he was with were perfect gentlemen, did not curse once, helped me find my ball every time, gave me course related tips, and provided enjoyable conversation all the way up until the 18th hole, when a previous engagement forced them to leave early. I was planning on giving his course five stars anyway, as it is one of my favorite, but after playing with the owner, who was one of the nicest, accommodating, and welcoming pairings I’ve had, I wish I could give it 6 stars. The eighteenth hole leaves you right next to a clubhouse equipped with my favorite golf course equipment: a bar with cold beer...
Read moreUPDATE: Just played here yesterday and again the greens and fairways in great shape. I had mentioned the tee boxes before, with respect to their room for improvement. Two of the tee boxes where the Gold Tee Blocks are positioned of the two worst tee boxes, do not allow for a two club tee ball positioning behind the blocks. I thought that was a USGA thing. The long Par 3 on the back nine is one of the boxes in question. I don't know the financial status of The Bucks Club overall, but if they have the means, I would suggest making some of the tee boxes wider and deeper. This should facilitate "healing" on the tee boxes when the blocks can be moved around to buy time for remediation. Other than that, the course does a great job and it fun to play. Hey Bucks, please don't take this personally.
UPDATED: I had the opportunity to play here again (August 9th), this past Wednesday with friends. The course, the greens were in outstanding shape. I believe the Club has reduced the number off tee boxes that require attention to possibly one or two. Again, friendly folks in the Pro Shop and at the first tee. I have found the most challenging part of the course for me, has been to consistently read the greens. There are a few surprises. They do a great job here.
I have played here twice the past couple of weeks. Very friendly folks here at The Bucks Club golf course. Course conditions: the course is fairly wide open, for the most part with some challenging Par 3s and some accessible Par 4s. The course's defense lay with some really tough pin placements and closely mowed greens. Personally, I could use a denser grass growth. Balls run true but some greens are tough to read. Fairways are in very good condition but the tee boxes could use a little love. On a few holes, finding a level spot on the tees can be a challenge. You can move a couple yards on those tees. All in all, The Bucks does a nice job. "Geezers" like me can play...
Read moreHonestly, I would give The Bucks Club more than 5 stars if I could! We booked this venue in late 2023, and couldn't be happier! Shane, the Event Sales Manager, was extremely easy to work with and we never waited more than 24 hours for a response to an email, although Shane usually responded within an hour or two! The venue itself is absolutely gorgeous with new hardwood floors, new chairs and tables and new chandeliers as of November 2023 and there are literally hundreds of places to take photos outside. The food is fantastic, and they include a cake for your wedding, with a cake tasting to choose from a ton of various cake, frosting and filling flavors, each one better than the next! My husband and I are big craft beer drinkers, and Shane helped us effortlessly incorporate craft beer into our bar for the cocktail hour and reception. One of the many reasons we chose The Bucks Club was because they offer a huge 'locker room' (don't think typical locker room) for both the bride and groom to get ready in the morning of the wedding, and also because they only host one event there per day; many of the venues we toured could potentially have more than one wedding on the same day, which we did not want. You can also bring in your own florist or use the one they provide, and can really bring any vision you have to life for your wedding with an indoor or outdoor ceremony. We really enjoyed working with Shane and his staff for our wedding, and would highly recommend booking at...
