FANTASTIC! We went to this restaurant because of a 2020 magazine in a Dr's office. They are known for their Reubens, and I can see why .... AMAZING! The reuben comes in 2 sizes with homemade russian dressing. The corn beef is made in-house ( I love the spices). The service is great. They have plenty of suggestions. There are pickle barrels in the dining room that you can get as many pickles as your heart desires. We had macaroni salad and cole slaw ( loved them both). The coleslaw is creamy and not sweet. Macaroni salad has great flavor and is not overly dressed. Next, they brought out the cheese blintz ( crepe style filled with a creamy white sweet cheese filling). It comes with sour cream or preserves, we had both. When u eat it with the sour cream it makes it have a grilled cheese flavor and with the apricot preserves it tastes like a sweet treat. The noodle kugel was especially interesting noodles layered with cheese and a middle layer of cherries, then cinnamon on top. I am so glad I got to try it ( more like a dessert). Strangest thing but great taste. The potato knish had Carmelized onions and mashed potatoes wrapped by pastry like a croissant. Had the flavor of a Perogi. Next the potato latke had a good flavor, but was a little different in texture than I am used to ( very dense tight patty) homemade chicken broth with a matzo ball ( giant doughy airy dumplin) had really good flavor. For dessert we ended up getting carrot cake. This cake is full of walnuts and carrots, has a good spice and cream cheese icing. Definitely give them a chance. Huge menu and plenty to try as you can tell. Also they sell their amazing breads meats and honey and lots more....
Read moreGot takeout for the first time ever at Katzinger’s. I was very excited to try this place as it is a Columbus staple and as a foodie in Columbus, I felt it was necessary. I was quite disappointed with what I received.
Ordered a Reuben and a latke. To start off, my delivery guy was sitting in the restaurant for so long waiting for the food. I felt bad for him as time is money and it was at least 15 minutes he was sitting there waiting.
The meat on the Reuben was the best part of the whole experience. It was very tender and there was a lot of it. I could have personally used more sauerkraut on the sandwich. The bread was super crusty and moist and high quality, but I didn’t taste any rye flavor at all. Maybe they gave me the wrong kind of bread? Lastly, it wasn’t hot. The cheese wasn’t even slightly melted. I was hoping for a hot sandwich with melty Swiss cheese holding it all together. It just wasn’t.
The pickle was crunchy but didn’t have a sour flavor at all, mostly just cucumber flavor.
The latke was the worst part of the whole meal. It had good flavor, I could taste the onion, but it was soooo dry. The entire inside of it was white and powdery. It looked like raw flour but I’m thinking it was just so dry. I ate two bites with my tiny amount of applesauce it came with and threw the rest away. I can make a way better latke at home for 1/20 of the price.
If this restaurant had more reasonable prices, I would have given it 3 stars. It is just so overpriced for what you receive. I do not plan on returning to...
Read moreI visited the Dublin location for the first time today. I was warmly greeted and was advised that it was Restaurant Week and they had a special menu. I chose to get their turkey, bacon and pimento cheese sandwich, accompanied by potato salad and a fudge brownie, which were featured on their RW menu. Additionally, I ordered a fountain soda. After a short wait, a staff member delivered my drink and a few minutes later, my food arrived. So far, so good. The restaurant was clean, orderly and comfortable, which is a great improvement to the in-store experience at the German village location. Unfortunately, my lunch experience went off the rails with the arrival of my order. The sandwich was grilled and warm, but disappointing as it was utterly lacking in flavor. I ate half, and saved the other for later. The Hellman's mayonnaise potato salad was dry and flavorless. My final item, the fudge brownie, was dry and also flavorless. At one point, I wondered if I was suffering from Covid and had lost my sense of smell/taste. However, I thoroughly tasted and enjoyed my Pepsi and was also able to normally taste my dinner that evening. I have always enjoyed the food when I've dined at the GV location, but found the setting loud, crowded and often unkempt. But the flavors and food quality trumped the negatives. The Dublin location may be more comfortable, but the food was so disappointing, I won't...
