Carver's Cafe — Restaurant in Washington

On January 4th, my birthday, at Swinomish casino I gambled a bit and then stopped in at Carver's for a late dinner (I had gotten a $10 dining credit for my birthday from the casino). I ordered a French dip with fries to go. Right off the bat my au jus spilled all inside my bag so I had to go back and get another one. I wiped everything else off in the bag while waiting over 5 mins for my new au jus. Then I had to try to eat my sandwich while driving. The au jus was very bland, the fries were soggy and the meat was sliced pretty thick and seemed a little dry. Then before I finished the 1st half of my sandwich I bit into what felt like a big piece of plastic and I pulled it out of my mouth. I then pulled my car over to see what it was. After turning on a light I could see that it was a dried piece of beef that looked like leather. I immediately got turned off and put the rest of my meal in the back seat and planned on throwing it away when I got to a garbage can. I was with a friend and we went to another casino where I had to sit in the bathroom for a half hour with stomach cramps. After getting out of the bathroom I told my friend I needed to get a room because I felt so sick I couldn't drive. Well, their hotel was booked. Then I went to a different bathroom where I proceeded to throw up for another half hour. Then my friend pulled my car around so we could find a hotel room nearby. I threw up more outside of my car. We ended up finding a room and I laid down for the next 8 hours feeling sick. Great birthday! Don't think I'll ever eat...

I frequent this casino for other restaurants, this was my first experience with Carver's. I went in for breakfast as I try to get breakfast out twice a month. I decided to try Carver's because they have chicken fried steak with sausage gravy. Staff were nice, order to table time was relatively low, but it was not busy at 0830 on a Sunday morning.

The chicken fried steak itself was very good, which is why this review was pulled up from 1-star. I'd do 2.5 stars if I could, but there are two things that really drove this mark down.

First, Portions: I've seen reviews that state that portions are large. I'm a larger person at 6'3" and 230lbs , so I suppose it's perspective, but why skimp on hashbrowns? There were hardly any. For the price paid, I really expected more, and the steak itself was smaller than anywhere else in Anacortes.

Second, and this is a cardinal sin for a "café;" coffee. The coffee was awful, truly awful. This is a petty remark, but when tied with the portions, there is no justification. It's an easy thing, what else is being skipped on if the coffee tastes like they reused grounds for the 3rd time using the old water from the 2nd brew? I really can't stress how bad the coffee was, and there is no reason for that. Yes, the main part of the meal was good, albeit small, the ancillaries were small in portion as well, but tied in with bad coffee? Nope, not...

Well really bad service tonight. We came from BC on a motorcycle and was real hungry. We were told this restaurant was a go to for food and portions. Well my experience was horrible, first I ordered the steak from the menu. Asked for rare temperatures. When it arrived, the steak was medium temperature. I informed the waitress, which was young and unexperienced about my issue. I was super hungry and started to eat the broccoli and potatoes. I only ordered one beer as well. Took 2 sips out of the bottle. The waitress was called over and I asked if I was getting more side dishes as the potatoes and broccoli was almost gone. She said no only a new steak. I then told her to take the steak off the bill and I will eat this one on my plate. The waitress grabbed gloves, took the steak off my plate and removed my beer. Told me I was cut off and security came over to tell me the same. So I got a replacement steak to eat. Which was good, but bad experience now for the casino. They won't serve me a drink and it's my first on here in America after a motorcycle ride. Not good, real bad taste in my mouth. They won't get any money from me now I will never come back and I need to let everyone know about this bad experience Stay away from this casino...
