First of all let me start by saying I like characters corner but they seemed a little overwhelmed on the food cooking and serving, considering the time I'm night we ordered around 8:00 p.m. and served around 9:00 there was three of us. I can understand being behind and understaffed if that was the case. Big complaint isn't the time it took which was bad but the quality of some of the food for the prices. Between the three of us we ordered fish and chips,2 steak finger baskets, clam chowder, clam strips,,cheese sticks. The consensus between the three of us was for the price could add a little bit more french fries I realize food cost is high but you should never skimp on the low cost plate stuffers like potatoes. It's a little underwhelming when you pay $13 to $15 for a plate and it looks like a kids meal. The fish was good, clam strips were good, cheese sticks were good and the clam chowder was really good. But audacity that the cooks could actually serve steak finger baskets that looked like this, both orders for$12.95 is unreal. I was a chef and kitchen manager for 30 years I realize sh__t happens when you fall behind but you just can't serve stuff like this especially if it takes an hour. Not only were the steak fingers small, they were dry and tuff as shoe leather, you can literally tell by looking at them soon as they showed up. If you can't serve a quality product don't serve it. If the chef or cook thought this was acceptable he or she either needs retrained or replaced. If the owner is keeping them preparing a better product because of cost sham on them. Once again can't serve a quality product don't serve it take it off the menu. As a whole, like I like characters corner, friendly staff nice atmosphere, just put a little bit more into the...
Read moreUsed to be amazing service for regulars who stopped in for lunch. Wasn't there much for dinners as I was closer to home at that time of day. Over the last 6 months I would only stop in when I see the parking lot is empty due to service being so unreliable. I have sat there talking about projects with Co workers and we were never asked about getting water or food for 45min to an hour(on 3 seperate occasions this happened). I get that they are busier now with the remodel and I'm glad for them. But if you're not in their 'good ol boy' crowd, you're not getting served (no matter who is working) if you're sitting at a table. Noticed that some servers are pretty good about ignoring certain people who don't look the same as a lot of the regulars. I will not be back after stopping in here for many years. Comments and topics of discussion between staff and patrons lead me to believe this is not a safe place for LGBTQ+ customers who might be there alone after dark.
Food is hit n miss. Sometimes it's really on point. Sometimes it's a real let down. I will miss their fish taco Friday special. It was the #1 reason I stopped in....
Read moreWow! Before Covid we ate lunch here regularly. Was really looking for a comeback and had the chance to eat here twice before the sale to new owners. Now? Not so much. Pros: Refresh/remodel is nice, but who cares? Everything was really worn before but it was clean. They've left some "character." Staff was always friendly and the food came fast. They seem to really care that many people had a fixed lunch hour. Now they are still very nice and cheerful and fast enough. So little change there. Cons: Captain's platter was our go to lunch for $10.00 before Covid, $10.50 post Covid. Now it's $15.00. Okay, they have to pay for the "refresh" with a massive increase...and this price is in line with other establishments. But then came the meal! The flavors were spot on. Same cook?!! But the amounts were, maybe, 15% to 20% less, especially the fries. I guess we'll stay closer to home, try to find some other place we like as well as the old Character's Corner, eat out even less...thanks, new owners. Update Captain's Plater, if still served, was $17.50 when we went for the very last...
