Read moreLocated along Georgia Avenue N.W. in Brightwood is a family-owned restaurant called J & J Mex-Taqueria. With tie-tied floors, the menu is full of tacos, burritos and other Mexican favorites. I went for lunch on a Wednesday in December 2021. Here's my experience:
Food: They serve breakfast (sandwiches and tacos), lunch and dinner. If you go for lunch or dinner, you can't go wrong on any of their tacos. A single taco ranges between $3.25 and $4 and comes in corn or flour tortillas. I ordered three chorizo tacos on flour tortillas Mexican style (onions and cilantro) and it filled me up. They were full of flavor so much that they didn't need salsa. (They have medium and hot salsa in case you want it.)
Service: It's quick and friendly. Once I downed my three tacos, one of the workers laughed that I must have enjoyed it because I ate them so fast. Yes, it's true. They were soooo good.
Space: It's a small space with colorful walls, floor and art on its walls. A public restroom is in the way back. It's kept clean and tables are frequently wiped down.
Location: It's on a strip with plenty of other food options, but J&J is one of he best!
Parking: It can be harder to find along busy George Avenue NW, but I found easy street parking a few blocks away at 9th and Sheridan Ave NW.
Open daily, except for Sunday, it's a worthy contender for a go-to lunch or...

This is a family-owned business, and though I don't speak Spanish, I got the sense of family here. From the young twenty-something cook with the cocky attitude of youth, to the young hostess-cashier with the winning smile, to the tatooed slightly older guy making guacamole fresh from scratch---it was a pleasant atmosphere. It is clean (spotless, actually), and everything you see before you looks as fresh as if it were from farmer's field to plate. And my burrito was DELICIOUS. Again, freshness I could taste til the last bite.
People, if you want good food, a clean restaurant, and the warmth of being served by a family that obviously values what "family " means, come to this place.
You deserve them---and they prove, through quality and service, that they...
