3/9/25…5 star for the wait staff. Atmosphere is pretty good, only complaint was it was a bit dark for reading the menu. On to the food… -The wedge salad (half, decently priced for $14). This was ok, different than your traditional wedge. The candied like bacon was a bit sweet for us, the dressing lacked. Parmesan slivers helped. Mixed on the onion strings, although good, didn’t feel the need. Avocado was not ripe enough to serve. -Bread and butter ($7). Comparable to a white sandwich bread; would have expected a good rustic. The end pieces were dry, served with unsalted butter. Nothing worth serving. -Stroganoff, would be better named beef noodle ($38, traditionally standard). The noodles were a bit too Al dente, noted more as it cooled. I got “one small piece” of a mushroom..just as I was saying to my husband, didn’t it say mushrooms? Was greasy to say the least. The meat was absolutely horrible. My first bite, I had to spit out in public…several 1” bites of solid blubbery fat, the rest was tiny bits of mush (meat with fat). All of which I had to pick through with my fingers or push aside. -Penne Pasta ($36). Chicken was small cubes of dryness, he said it was overcooked, I’m thinking it sat. My husband’s second bout of complaints, was that every bite was the same, just garlic. Part way through, he was asking to trade bites with our Son…simply went back to his. -Chicken Parmesan ($38). Also not your traditional chicken parm, no breading. My Son complained that the basil overwhelmed it, couldn’t taste anything else. Included a large chunk of mozzarella, was hard, and rightfully discarded. He ate a bit over half of the meal, until I told him, don’t feel obligated. $150, $175 with tip. I should have stuck their listed favorites, or pub style food…oh who...
Read moreI left Yakima many years ago and upon back visiting I hoped to see a healthy menu, from a place like this. It was a old menu with modern seating. I would have liked to seen organic, non gmo, raised un caged or gluten free on the menu. I now live in Santa Barbara, Ca and we have choice of what we eat. It does not matter if local or made from scratch, if it is bad. Nice staff, horrible food and not fitting to the ambiance projected. In my opinion it was marginal and spendy for what it was. To the owner who responded: You had some gluten free on the menu but, overall you have a un healthy selection on your menu. Perhaps, you want to cater to that choice of food and the customers who buy it and maybe your customers don't care. It was not for me, I like plant base choices and I care about what I eat. I like all organic, non gmo, lean meats that are free range raised, with no hormones or antibiotics and gluten free for health reasons. I know sourcing good food is expensive. Yakima is a quality town with many quality people that want to drink good and eat good. Yakima is a agricultue tapestry with wines, hops and a huge assortment of fruit, vigetables and herbs. Yakima is better than most towns and as far as Santa Barbara goes, it just follows trends and has good winters. The world is changing. Good thoughts and...
Read moreProvisions is definitely aimed for a trendy crowd. It has the dark colors and open ceiling common on places today. The front opens up providing both outdoor seating as well as fresh air for its patrons. They opened last year in order to bring some farm fresh food to the Yakima Valley. They also have a market that I didn't have a chance to visit.
The food was good, if not really unique. I ended grabbing a shiitake burger from their fresh lunch menu. It's a deceptively easy food that shows me a lot about a place. I ordered it rare because chefs often overcook burgers. This one, unfortunately, was closer to medium. It was flavored wonderfully, though. The fries could have used a little pinch of salt. None the less, they were still good and cut in an interesting way. Somewhere between curly fries and steak fries.
The service was spot on, very polite and welcoming. They managed to tow the line between great service and too much service very well. The food was priced about what you'd expect for a place like this.
I would love to give them a five-star review, but there are a couple little things nagging at me. I'll definitely be back and I would recommend it to a friend. I think 4.5 stars would be very fair. I think its worth checking out...
