No power at our house on a Saturday morning so off to The Rusty Wagon for breakfast. We waited about 3 minutes at the door to be acknowledged by a rude hostess who showed us to a table by flinging the menus down and walking away. Yes, she flung them and just walked away. Nope, not gonna sit here when there was an open clean booth. I caught a passing server and asked could we sit in that booth? She looked so irritated and replied, "Well I guess so." I picked up the menus and set-ups and we sat at the booth. Tick Tock...I watched three tables get seated and the "I guess so waitress" acknowledged them nicely brought them drinks and took orders. We were totally ignored. The rude hostess did stroll by and attempted to give me a nasty look but she couldn't even do that correctly. She proceeded to attempt to clear a table by just pushing things around. 10 minutes went by with NO service from the three servers standing in the corner chatting so we left. This isn't the only game in town. There was a time when I would wait up to 30 minutes to get a table because the food and service here was so worth the wait. This place has gone from Hero to ZERO! I am NOT concerned with your server seating schedule I do expect to be treated with courtesy especially by your hostess, who sets the tone for the people who want to pay you with money. We will not be back and after speaking with a few other folks today, the other restaurant, Rustler's in Lynden isn't much better. Poor Management & Unfriendly staff are a recipe for...
Read moreTried this place on a busy Thursday evening dinner hour. It was clearly popular. My first impression was that it was like a diner trying to masquerade as a dive. Lot's of country kitsch. I was enthusiastically greeted the moment I walked in the door and shown to a simple but comfortable booth. The menu is pretty impressive and covers a lot of options. I chose one of their specialties, prime rib dinner. The price was half of what I see in other places locally. The rib roast was well seasoned, tasty and cooked to the requested doneness but clearly the grade was not USDA Prime, but at that price I'll accept that every time. It was accompanied with baked potato and garden vegetables. For some reason, the baker showed up full of sour cream, green onions and bacon bits; I was never asked how I like my bakers. (I prefer butter only). The vegetable medley was a wonderful mix, all cooked to the perfect tenderness but....unseasoned and unfortunately served lukewarm. My waitress was outstanding and deftly juggled a full house while providing very prompt and personal service. I'll visit again and try something else on...
Read moreThere are a few places left locally owned that make your heart sing like this. The environment is next level. I would go just to see the memorabilia alone. What a wonderful staff, an amazing menu. Nothing you get will be bad. It's all going to be tremendously great. Especially if you're looking for breakfast. That is my absolute favorite there. You just can't go wrong from the environment, to the staff, to the food. The prices are great, and the proportions are immense. Absolutely one of my top 5 favorite places in Whatcom County. You might be one of my top THREE actually. 😉 Side note: I really appreciated as well their amazing community support during very challenging times with Covid. I could not have been more impressed by the way that the owners handled that entire situation. I would just like to applaud them after the fact if nobody has. I'm sure MANY have, but I would like to add MY applause as well. I truly cannot imagine Whatcom County without them. They really make a giant contribution to this area and I hope they are here till the end of my...
