This is only our second visit, but the last visit was probably close to a year ago. This time was definitely better and I'm so glad we tried again! (I'm obsessed with pupusas AND curtido, so I might be a tough critic.) *Side note: they have a tent with a few tables. It used to have covered sides. It did not when we visited last week.
I am deathly allergic to crustaceans, so I didn't try any of their nice shrimp menu items that I would have loved to try. My husband got a seafood soup. We got some chicharron, some bean and cheese, and some biria pupusas. My daughter got a cheese quesadilla, with rice only by request.
We also got a whole bunch of proposals to go for different friends that don't live near this place. We also got them a chicken quesadilla for their kids and a carne asada 3 taco plate.
Condiments: Typical pupuseria curtido...but weak on the oregano and chili flakes? I honestly couldn't even tell if they were there but we had to eat fast and go. Still it was definitely good not great but good! It was sufficient to add a bit of depth and flavor to the busa, which is good enough for me... Especially because the bottle deep red salsa (that you can see seeds in it) this one was so so good!! Basic lighter red table salsa for pupusas . I found that layering the deep red sauce on top of the other condiments inside of the pupusa was so full flavored eating method. Oh.my.goodness!!!
They do not have a bathroom but the gas station, next door does and they are very nice. (Just watch out because as soon as you enter. If you have kids they stick suckers in their face and don't ask you if you want your kid to have a sucker. And if you go back in they will literally do it again. And when you tell your kid not to take one, they might kind of argue with you like they did with me. A little strange.)
There is a bikini coffee drive-thru with window in shot of the taco truck. Fyi.
There is a decent amount of parking and they have recently repaved the parking lot which is great! This is also a pretty good location because there are a few ways out of there depending on where you are...
Read moreEDIT: Take all of that with a grain of salt though because the only reason I waited or drove that far in the first place is because they’re the best tacos I’ve had since moving to Washington. The salsa is surprisingly spicy and flavorful, the pastor, chicken, and azada are all delicious, and the turnaround from when you place your order is less than 10 min. Stuff happens, buddy was late, but the food is 10/10 and might be the only non-whitewashed Mexican food near Seattle. —————— Don’t show up at 9am because I’ve been waiting outside for 35 minutes. If I didn’t already drive 30 mins to get here or perhaps if I had a single thing to do this morning I would’ve left by now as I’ve seen a few others do.
I called after waiting for 15 mins and the lady on the phone reassured me they are open today but that itd be 9:30. Its 9:37. Just a bit...
Read moreGenerous with their asada's and pupusa filling. Service was friendly and food was fast. Will I return? yes. Two pupusa shops closed in Renton and thrilled to find a taco truck 2 miles from home that sells them.
Dear Owner, please sell an option for mild salsa. Everything for the pupusa was near perfect except the condiments for pupusa were a 4-5 stars on heat level. The curtido had chunks of jalapeno I had to pick out and the salsa was unbearably too spicey for me to enjoy. I hope the owner reads this as I am not the first to mention how spicey their salsa is and hope they makes accomedation for mild salsa/curtido.
with that being said, thank you for being the only pupusa spot left in Renton and providing affordable food.
Aug 2020 Update** The papusa sauce is less spicey. I think the owner adjusted the spice level. THANK YOU don...
