Where to even start! I made a last minute reservation (literally the night before) for New Years Eve on OpenTable at Whiskey Prime for 9pm. I had never heard of it but on our very limited time frame we didn't have a whole lot of options for dining especially with Covid and the current dining restrictions in the state. I read the reviews on multiple platforms and although some made me a little nervous, the menu looked wonderful and I was just excited to be able to go out to dinner and send off 2020 properly. Upon arriving the gentlemen at the front was not the friendliest I had ever met but after a few minutes of waiting for our 9pm reservation and just observing I realized this guy had probably spent the better part of his evening turning people (heavily intoxicated people at that) away whom were not always the friendliest to him.
Once our time slot was ready we were escorted to a table right near the bar. I had read a few reviews of people not being very please with this section but I decided to just go with it and see how things ended up. Well.. I ended up finding it clean, comfortable, fairly quiet and overall quite pleasant.
Once seated we were greeted almost immediately by a very nice waitress (Rachel) who was endlessly helpful. I had soooo many questions and she answered everyone without hesitation. We were in no hurry and she never once made us feel like we should pick up the pace. She got us our water and a loaf of the softest bread I think I've ever been served that came with the most delightful butter (I think it was a honey butter, definitely tasted homemade and was not something you should pass up - I got a little extra to take home it was that good).
She helped us pick two appetizers and two different glasses of wine to pair and neither disappointed. The Crab Cakes were some of the best we've ever had (ask for extra aioli, you can thank me later) and the Smoked Tuna Carpaccio was so yummy and came with a "smoky experience" (which could have just been Rachel's incredible personality but it was something small that made a big impact).
For dinner we decided to share a bottle of Robert Mondovi Pinot and the 26oz Ribeye Hatchet and OMG... I don't even have words. The wine was fantastic and went so well with our dinner. We asked for somewhere between med-rare and rare on the steak, it was cook to perfection. We got it with the lobster tail (not only was this presented beautifully but it was so tender and delicious), the roasted brussels sprouts (this dish is a must have; the sauce on them with the pomegranate seeds was mind blowing), the potato puree (this wasn't anything special or fancy, yes it paired well with the steak but overall just plain mashed potatoes) and a side of their tabacco onions (these were surprisingly something I was super happy we didn't pass up on)! Per Rachel's suggestion (and my indecisiveness) we went with two steak sauces, the Chimichurri and the Béarnaise and both were fresh and very very good.
Towards the end of our dinner the manager came over and we had a 20 minute conversation with him about the food, the restaurant and of course our amazing server. When she came back to the table we had to get a box and unfortunately refuse dessert (as you can imagine with all the food listed above, the two of us were incredibly full)! When she returned I noticed she had her phone out and I found this quite odd as she had been so professional up until this point. I looked at my boyfriend to say something (I get uncomfortable any time a camera is pointed in my direction) and when I turned around I found him on one knee.... Yep, Rachel helped him pull off the biggest surprise of the evening. As the clock struck midnight she not only witnessed but recorded the moment he asked for my hand.
Yes the food is on the expensive side but it's worth every single penny! I've eaten at steakhouses in DC, Paris, Prague, Iceland, etc. and this one was as good (if not better) than any of them! My Fiancé and I are already talking about when we can sneak away for another date...

I ordered the roasted beet salad and New York Steak, the Steak was cooked to perfection and rather flavorful, the beets salad was delicious! My husband ordered the clam chowder and Hatchet Steak. He noted the clam chowder was one of his favorites and his steak also cooked to perfection and flavorful! For desert we had the cheesecake with a pretzel crust, it was okay, the pretzels a little soggy. Much better experience this time around. We will be back!!
We visited the steakhouse Friday April 9th, prior to the Aaron Crawford Concert. There were a total of 6 of us, 3 couples. We all ordered different salads, and they were the best part of the meal. My husband and I ordered the crab cakes, they should have been called salt cakes, I was able to handle one bite and that was it. You would think for the price you pay for the crab cakes they would have taken more pride in making them not so salty. My friend and I ordered the Rigatoni, we missed 1/2 the concert because we were sick to our stomach in the bathroom, this definitely cut our night short. Four people at our table ordered steak, two New Yorks were over cooked, the 8 ounce was "stringy" and one was cooked just right. We all spent a lot of money to have a crappy meal. The waiter would bring new drinks and leave the empty glasses and bottles at the table, at one point I had to call him over and ask him to clear the table. I would also suggest when there are multiple couples at the table that you bring a loaf of bread for each couple, it was definitely awkward trying to slice a piece of bread and manage to keep your hands off of the rest of the loaf. Very disappointed in our meal, especially since two of us got sick. We will not be back to the...
Read moreMy wife and I went the Whiskey Prime Steakhouse on her birthday. She had the chicken and I had a New York Steak, medium rare. I read the reviews before we went and many customers had account of their steak being rare when asking for medium or medium rare. I had an. idea of what to expect. My steak was more rare than medium rare but i like it that way. Glad I read the reviews beforehand.
The chicken that my wife has was quite good. Not really certain how it was cooked but it appeared to be braised and was very flavorful. My New York Steak was also flavorful and cooked how I liked it. The presentation of the meals was excellent. I requested the horseradish sauce that had no kick to it at all. More like sour cream with some horseradish flavoring.
Overall the experience was very good. My only complaint is the utensil they offer as a steak knife. I actually asked the waiter for a steak knife and he brought what appeared to be a serrated butter knife which was even good for cutting the bread that is offered before the meal. May I request that in the future the good people at the Whiskey Prime Steakhouse invest in some decent, perhaps wooden, handled steak knives. I had a heck of a time cutting my New York Steak with that butter knife.
I would recommend the steakhouse for those interested. The food was very good but not great. I had higher expectations as would most people who are dropping $75.00 on a steak might. To the steakhouse credit they did bring an after dinner crembroule' with strawberries and it was delicious.
Thank you for enjoyable experience but please get some real...
