I was in Waterbury for a few hours with another hour to get home and needed to eat. I searched for food near me and this restaurant popped up. Wasn't sure what to expect but upon walking in, I knew this was the right place. A hearty hello accompanied by a smile welcomed us as soon as we got in the door. Nice and very clean place. The kool-aid options was very nostalgic, I went for the red "flavor" (iykyk). The food did not disappoint - Fried chicken, crispy outside and moist inside. Collard greens - seasoned just right, not salty and not overcooked. Mac & cheese - yummyyyyyy. Tried the yams and like someone else said, it was just right, no too sweet. Cook gave a sample of the bbq pork she was working on, said she usually does in the oven but was trying it on the grill. It was super moist and seasoned but I would have preferred a touch of salt. Grabbed a total of 4 dinners plus the kool-aid. There is a restroom for customers use, very clean as well. I highly recommend this spot and will support them again.

This hidden gem needs more exposure.I eat here at least twice a week. With daily specials and a new cook, those delicious tastes for home style goodness had gotten way better. Before I even reach I can smell the jerk chicken smoking on the grill. There is a closed off patio for outside eating and inside are a few tables and a large viewing area up front to see the food you want. The Mac n Cheese is the star for me and for those who don't want to spend all day in the kitchen there's collard greens, candied yams and oxtail on the regular.,and you can never go wrong with the chopped cheese for the kids.I love when the spaghetti turns up on specials and the carrot cake comes by for dessert. They have this Mama-Aid .. Their version of Kool aid (try the Mango). I could go on and on.Overall the portions are great and the quality is great. The prices are moderate but it's worth it.I'm always greeted by the tiniest girl with the biggest smile. Support black businesses.

The fish and the shrimp were fried to hard and in old oil. The yams was good can’t really mess up that. The greens had too many stems and the Mac was ok, don’t we season mac tho. The price was ridiculous as well. This did NOT satisfy my soul food kick. Never going here again.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An Unforgettable Culinary Gem in Waterbury!

My family and I drove down from Hartford last Saturday to attend the Make Music Festival at Liberty Park, and we were lucky enough to stumble upon Mama’s Loves’ Kitchen—what a blessing that was! The food was so incredible, we ended up coming back twice in the same day—yes, it was that good!

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by a young lady at the counter who was an absolute gem. Her warmth, smile, and top-tier customer service made us feel right at home. She handled everything with such grace and kindness, even when the place got busy.

As for the food? Pure comfort and joy on a plate. Every bite tasted homemade with love—rich flavors, generous portions, and everything served hot and fresh. You can tell this place is built on passion and pride in the kitchen. GET THE OXTAIL BOWL AND OR THE WHITING AND SHRIMP PLATE!!

If you're anywhere near Waterbury—or even an hour away like we were—make the trip. Mama’s Loves’ Kitchen is worth every mile, and we highly recommend stopping in. We'll definitely be back next time we’re in town!
