Kenny's Garage — Restaurant in Waukee

This bar could be such a great place if it weren’t for the horribly loud music. I started going last year and it was a great place to see live music and meet up with friends.

Well you might as well show up alone because you won’t be able to hear your friends over the ridiculously loud amp. I’m not sure if the owner has gone deaf or if they just want people drinking instead of talking, but the music is almost twice as loud as it was last year. For christs sake they had a mic for the trumpet player that’s less than 15 feet away.

It wouldn’t be so bad if it was just one night but it seems like half the time I show up with my wife we don’t even make it in the door because you can hear the band blasting from down the block multiple days a week. And the band plays for hours straight.

Last time I left with my ears literally ringing and my wife had to put in her headphones because she was in pain. The volume is far above a safe level for anyone and I have a hunch this has gotten so bad because the small group of these people listening must have destroyed their hearing so badly they can’t even realize how awful it is.

You know there’s a problem when the entire room has the best time during breaks...

I've been frequenting Kenny's following live music every week for 10+ years. Always a very friendly & attentive staff. Great local bands play every weekend with no cover charge. They also have a open jam every other Thursday with a house band, " GROOVE REVIEW", with "Dustin Farrow", that hosts the jam. I've attended all but a handful of the jams & have met & enjoyed many different musicians music. Kenny's also has a bingo night, games, a pool table, psychic Suzanne. The only thing lacking at Kenny's, is food with exception to frozen pizza, & free hot dogs on Jam night. Also Kenny's has not yet booked either of two recent popular bands that have played at other venues in the area, those being, "PROJECT TDS" & "THE CRUSH". These bands are amazing musicians who are rapidly growing a decent fan base. KENNY'S, YOUR MISSING OUT BY NOT BOOKING THESE BANDS WHEN POSSIBLE! With all that said.....I LOVE "KENNY'S GARAGE" & MAD KUDOS TO ALL OF YOUR AMAZING STAFF!!! ...

I dropped by Kenny's Garage after a friend asked me to meet there to watch one of the superior groups play their music on Friday the 27th of Jan. 2023. The group was excellent and enjoyed by a nearly full house of devotees of good music. Kenny's also has a nice dance floor and an excellent staff of bartenders and servers who provided a wide range of soft drinks, juices, beers and cocktails for you to choose from. The staff was very friendly and helpful as well as the attending crowd was friendly to new faces such as mine and very easy to converse with on a wide range of subjects. All in all, I would say it was one of the funnest nights I've had since moving to the Des Moines area from Colorado. If you have never been there before I would highly recommend you give this excellent establishment a try for...
