As you travel, look for locally-owned restaurants! The Wagon Wheel Cafe in Waynesboro, TN is a great example of a locally owned place with delicious food--lots of menu options, great service and the feel of a local place. My wife and I often split entrees. She wanted a cheeseburger. I ordered the four piece catfish meal. The burger was so good, we were finishing it when I remembered that I should have taken a picture. All burgers come with 10 oz patties. Look elsewhere for typical plate lunches. Chicken friend steak, chicken tenders, catfish, and a number of sandwich options. They fall a little short on vegetable options--they have a number of potato options. I had wanted a vegetable plate. There's one but wasn't appealing to me. My catfish was golden in color. Quite nice. Cole slaw was good. We had onion rings as an appetizer. Very good but maybe the oil wasn't up to temp when fried. They were pretty oily. Still, we enjoyed lunch. Good service. We had traveled through the area a year or so earlier and stopped. That led to this meal. We would dine there again. Some fun items on display. If you enjoy nostalgia, you'll enjoy the stop. I didn't get a look at the breakfast menu but I think that might be even better than lunch. Go local! And support restaurants in small towns. The communities need these places far more than a fast...
Read moreOver the past few years, I've been to this place a dozen times between this location and the previous one in Collinwood. I have gotten sick about half of the times I've eaten here. The food doesn't taste bad, but the soda tastes like it is served through butter. If I had to guess, I bet they have never cleaned their lines or machine. I am not sure what it is, but I am done. I do not need to spend a day on the throne for an O.K. tasting Mushroom Swiss burger. They also put way too much lawrys season salt on their fries.
As for the staff, well, it depends on who's working. I've had good service and minimal to almost no service. I've seen their waitresses working hard and others playing games on their phone sitting behind the counter.
I guess the moral is when there isn't much competition in the area you settle to the level that gets you by.
It's a shame because some of their food isn't bad. Their BLT is particularly good, albeit a bit salty, baconwise. People like their catfish. I thought it was too silver skinny.
As for atmosphere, the restaurant is full of toys and signs and knick nacks for sale. I get it, the area is depressed and they need to make money where they can. Just wish it was on good food and beverages that didn't make you,...
Read moreBentley had the fish plate which was the lunch plate special that day for only $5. I had a BLT and it was like $7. Our drinks was maybe $3 each. It wasn't crowded inside, however, their were alot of callin orders while we were there... But it never stopped us from getting wonderful service. I'll admit, I haven't been here in a while because I didn't have a great experience the last time, This time was BY FAR so much different... WE WILL MOST DEFINITELY BE RETURNING... I'm sure a lot more frequently as well 🙂. Service was top notch. Bacon on my BLT was a little chewy, but only cause it was really thick bacon. I mean I don't expect perfection 😂 😂 😂 There's no way, in my opinion, that anyone could get that bacon crisp... Overall, 5 out of 5 stars. Definitely our #1 go to...
