Baffling experience. As long-time fans of the sister restaurant Olive and Oak, we had high hopes for trying out their brunch place. However, we were left with more than one bad taste in our mouths. We had to return the drinks we ordered for being unpotable. When you think "mimosa," a clear picture should form in your mind - a champagne glass, orange juice, and sparkling champagne, right? They served us a flat wine in a wide-mouth wine glass. Also, I'm not saying "flat" to be hyperbolic - either this was just plain white wine, or the bartender really decided to serve me champagne that didn't have a single bubble left in it. Baffling choices all around. We also ordered an espresso martini, which, like the mimosa, is a pretty tried-and-true brunch standard; a fluffy, sweet, shaken cocktail. You know what an espresso martini is not? A shot of espresso pulled directly into straight vodka. To their credit, they didn't hesitate to give us a refund for the drinks.
The food was boring, the flavors were poorly balanced, and the sandwiches both came with kettle chips - which, while fine, didn't exactly impress either of us, or merit 14 dollars per plate. Not to mention, the ingredients tasted cheap.
The worst part of the meal was the "Honey Berry Mouse Cake." It was a perfect semicircle of a bright purple, gelatinous substance. There was some kind of cookie sticking out of the top of it? The inside of the orb was white and tasted overwhelmingly like cheese. I have no idea where the "honey" was supposed to come in - the cookie, maybe? - but the only "berries" invloved was the tablespoon or so of jelly in the middle. It was inedible.
Just to reiterate: we love Olive and Oak! When we learned that this brunch place was run by the same group, we were really excited to try it out! It makes it all the more disappointing that this experience failed on every level, save the aesthetic...
Read moreLast night, I was looking at their website and discovered that they accept online orders. I decided to order lunch for today to carry out. I completed my order and transaction, and received confirmation email of my order, but this morning, I received a message that there was a problem with my order and that I needed to call the restaurant. I called and spoke with Ian, one of the managers. Ian was helpful and understanding, and took down my information to make sure that my order would be placed and that I would not be charged twice. He told me to come in at the time I had specified on my order and ask for him personally. While on the phone, he also asked for my input regarding whether or not I'd prefer to have my hot drink ready upon my arrival at the risk of it being less than hot, or if I'd mind waiting a couple of minutes while they made the hot drink after I arrived. When I arrived at the restaurant, Ian met me personally and explained the reason for the error that they had discovered in the couple of hours since we'd spoken on the phone. My meal and hot drink were ready in under two minutes and it was just as delicious as when I ate in with a friend a couple of weeks ago. I am not only with the amazing food, but with the attentive staff and service as well! Olive + Oak has been my favorite restaurant since I first ate there after it opened, and I've never had anything less than wonderful service there. I was so excited to hear about the concept for the Clover & Bee, and as far as I can tell, it's continuing olive + Oak's high standard of excellence. Thank you, Clover & the Bee, for all that you do and the amazing food and service...
Read moreMy companion and I were entranced with this beautiful restaurant. Right away the aesthetic and vibe of all the decor and design was so striking to us, we were in awe and absolutely loved the look of everything. The speed of service was very quick, and the food itself was absolutely delightful. I very much enjoyed the salmon bagel which came with a cucumber caper salad and poached eggs (ordered extra) on the side. My companion got a sandwich which he loved as well, we can’t remember but pretty sure it was a roast pork sandwich with chips on the side. The only downside is that he wished that he would have been given an option of sides to choose from instead of the chips which he didn’t know he would be getting. They don’t have a side menu that we found, every entrée comes with its own side dish… I guess you could ask to switch it up but it is an unusual way of doing things. However I did enjoy my cucumber side. We were very tempted to get a third round of drinks but due to the pricing we decided against it, although we will definitely be revisiting! I was also impressed with the variety of syrups they offered for lattes. I don’t think I’ve ever seen almond, cardamom, orange, and other unique flavors offered anywhere else. It made for a very good almond caramel latte that I got. With the gorgeous interior and exterior dining areas, the quick service and delicious food that comes beautifully plated, the delightful coffee drinks, we will definitely be coming back very soon. Thank you to the staff for the...
