This store has a tremendous selection of titles with a wide variety of genres (rock/rap/blues/soul). One of the issues that emerges with such a vast selection of titles is the ways in which someone can get lost in the shuffle of the store. The biggest hurdle to browsing is the combined rock/pop section which made it very difficult to find acts like Britney Spears or Carole King. Basically the store puts together the last 50 years of popular music in five long rows of records. As a vinyl and genre enthusiast it puts the onus on me to make sense of what self-defined categories the store has.
I was blown away by the curation found on the second floor, the scores/soundtrack section was the best I have seen in my short stint as a vinyl collector. I was able to find the original cast albums of both All that Jazz and Nashville! This made a frustrating browsing experience redeemable.
I also find myself questioning why new records of some classics were marked up 50% (case in point: Nas's Illmatic was priced at $32.99, in other stores in the market it's roughly $22 (Barnes and Noble, Half Price Books).
Euclid Records demands a multi-hour shopping experience in order to find reasonably priced records that meet your collecting needs. My haul was 5 records and just shy of $60, which meets my near $10 per record desired spend. Overall, I don't think I'll be revisiting Euclid anytime soon due to the difficulty of browsing and lack of reasonably...
Read moreI truly used to love frequenting Euclid Records. Their selection is great, and they always have an awesome selection of new releases. Last weekend though, changed my mind. My friend and I were waiting for a table at Sushi Station down the street, so we decided to walk to Euclid to browse. On Saturday nights, they close at 8pm. We arrived at 7:40 just to see if there was anything we wanted.
There was one other group inside when we got there. At 7:43, we were looking at the used LPs, and a worker came from downstairs. She told us “just to let you know, we close in 5 minutes.” We had 17 minutes to browse, so we just thought she was reading time wrong. My friend picked up an LP intending to buy.
We continued to browse and I was also going to buy a $51 record. The other group left around 7:50. Right when they left, we were near the back browsing, and the lady worker was turning off the lights on us, basically forcing us out. With 10 minutes left before closing. I’ve worked in customer service, and have never forced customers out before closing time. They treated us like a nuisance, and we put our LPs back. I will visit other local record stores who don’t treat their customers like an annoyance over Euclid from now on. Giving them two stars because their selection is great, and before this, I had amazing experiences...
Read moreThey have a great selection of lp's, 45's, and cd's. Their trade prices are not the best. First impressions are the important ones they say. On my first visit, I enjoyed looking around, and the staff was friendly. Then , another employee/owner not sure came in, and you could feel the tension. He found a stack of records a customer left by the demo turntable and started throwing a fit and then in front of everyone threw the records against a wall cussing. When we checked out, someone put my trade in the system wrong, and he again threw a fit and all but pushed the employee out of the way so he could fix it his way. Just a bad day I thought but when one records I bought was warped a little too much for me and I returned to exchange it he asked if I was OK with him using a machine on to to flatten it and when I said no I'll just pick something else out he again threw a fit. I'd love to shop there again but am afraid of facing this man's rage if I make the wrong choice...
