9/24/25 update is only for the Boulangerie: croissants and breads are wonderful. But the "apple turnover" is really not a turnover; there are no apple slices; it is apple sauce that is way too sweet sandwiched between 2 layers of cake; it was very disappointing. The millefeuille is also a bit too sweet in taste. The egg sandwich was very good; the egg was executed beautifully and sandwiched in a croissant with cheese & thin bacon.
It really is a taste of France on Cape Cod! Overall, the food experience was great and worth it! But here is a closer look on what worked and did not work so well: The French wine pairings with the prix fixe menu were outstanding and very fun to try with each dish!!! Music played from France really made me feel like I was in France! Classics like Edith Piaf and music from an actual organ grinder made the experience authentic and special! The Escargot dish was a bit disappointing; it was not classic in its preparation. It had a lot of dark onion in the preparation, and I prefer the classic butter/garlic/parsley. The Wild Octopus appetizer was outstanding! The serving was one long tentacle which was meaty and so very tender! I don't know how Chef Philippe makes this so tender, but it is just delicious both in flavor and texture. I enjoyed the accompanying chickpea puree. A beautiful dish! The Dover Sole entree unfortunately failed: it was overcooked and dry. The fish was thin and should have been pan seared quickly. Also, I don't think it needs to be covered with brussel sprout leaves; the fish should be the star of this entree without distractions of greenery. The Pan Seared Duck breast was very good and the reduction sauce was wonderful! There was a bit of crisp at the skin and the meat was cooked just right medium-rare. The Chocolate Mousse was delicious with pearls of fondant. The Crepes Suzette were outstanding with thin slices of candied orange peel. (I opted out of the accompanying ice cream; I wanted to enjoy the Crepes). Simply outstanding with butter and sweet orange flavors! Waiter was knowledgeable about the wines being served as pairings and we appreciated his input. But he did not clear our table of all dinner items before desert was served. Dinner items (like bread) were left. All in all, I enjoyed this very special dining experience and look forward to dining at PB Boulangerie Bistro again! P.S: The Boulangerie is truly especially outstanding with their baked goods and worth waiting on line...
Read moreMy husband and I have been customers for over 10 years and each visit is still a magnificent treat. Because we have little kids, the market and bakery options have allowed us decedent moments at home, though we look forward to the Bistro reopening so one of these days we can finally go on a date to experience the in-depth flavors while having a quiet moment away from the little ones.
Many tried and true staples have been consistently enjoyed- quality of cafe au lait ☕️ , range of baked goods, the to-go sandwiches (the Parisian❤️), the house made pâté, the rotisserie chicken (thanks for the day old discount option) and the delicious salad dressing (OMG- how is it so good?!). We have very much enjoyed the well curated wine and champagne selections offered in the market. In fact, the ten dollar bottles of champagne sold between 2020-2023 got us through the Pandemic (merci! 🥂)
Tonight’s at home take out meal of beef bourguignon with, I believe it was called, Parisian vegetables made in a ratatouille-style over a bed of caramelized onions was one of the most mouthwatering meals we’ve ever had- ever and we consider ourselves foodies. As the last bites were negotiated, we agreed this published review was critical to remind / inform people of the skill, straight-up pure magic, and thoughtful artwork at PB. Thank goodness we don’t live closer to PB or we would invade and plunder the boulangerie on a daily basis.
Brief tips for other parents:
-Order ahead on the website. We’ve even ordered coffees ahead. -Buy the day old chickens. (You have to ask the server.) Taste better and less money so you can buy more baked goods! -grab mustard and pickles from the market area to keep the flavors going. We will also buy our own cheeses etc. to compliment the spreads, especially if we are sharing with guests. It saves a bit of $ as well. -the premade dinners are often sold in airtight freezer bags, perfect to freeze and enjoy when you’re tired and can’t cook. -if you’re prego and can’t enjoy caffeine, the hot chocolate is to die for, prego or not. -grab the bread loaves and freeze for later. -my fav trick if you didn’t order online in advance- grab a coffee from the take-out counter on the outdoor porch, then enjoy it while you wait in line and dream of what you’ll order.
Thank you for all the years of delicious meals. We will see you again in...
Read moreWe were so excited to visit PB Boulangerie in the summer of 2023 for some authentic French treats. Coming from Boston and being a pastry chef myself I expected It to be good but not to be blown away. I was wrong! Every pastry was better than the last. The service was outstanding and the atmosphere was wonderful. We came in for breakfast and immediately made a dinner reservation for my partners daughters 21st birthday later that week. I had the steak frites and it was phenomenal, followed by the raspberry tart that I still think about. The server was amazing and the restaurant was warm and inviting. Fast forward to this summer, July 2025, PBB was of course one of our first stops on our Cape vacation. We got the strawberry danish, apple turnover, pear tart and raspberry macaron. All were AMAZING! The Danish and turnover were perhaps two of the best breakfast pastries I have ever had. This time we did feel a bit rushed. We came right as they opened and the staff was clearly trying to keep the line moving which we totally understood. We probably would have spent a good walk more time and money if we hadn’t felt so rushed but my waistline didn’t need it :) and it gave us a reason to come back another day! We went back this morning, we got in line around 6:45 and were third to enter. We did not feel rushed at all this time and were able to look more thoroughly. My boyfriend got the ham and cheese croissant and both he and our dog LOVED it! It was warm and flaky, the ham was salty and crisp, it was really perfect. I came back for the Canelles and they did not disappoint! They were crispy and sweet on the outside, and custardy and moist inside. You could taste the rum just enough, they were as close to perfect as I have had. As someone who works in the industry, I absolutely love what they have done here. It’s like a little bit of France in Massachusetts. I enjoyed it so much that the first time we came in I reached out to see if I could stage while we were visiting! Unfortunately our schedules didn’t align but maybe someday! We were so sad that the restaurant wasn’t open this summer, it is clear that staffing issues have taken a toll. Hopefully they can reopen soon because it is really a special experience to dine with them. You can feel the love that is put into everything they do. Keep up...
