Nonna Maria's — Restaurant in West Bloomfield Township

First, this is a small place and busy, for good reason. Reservations are a must!! We had a party of 5 and our table was ready when we arrived. Cody was our server and he was outstanding. He was efficient, personable and knowledgeable. The service trifecta!!! This is an Italian restaurant, with no pizza offered. There is no kids menu. This is NOT chain Italian fare. The menu is not huge, which is a plus for me. Every dish we ordered was terrific. Bison meatballs with polenta for an appetizer...delicious. We ordered Veal DiMare (seafood), veal and lobster piccata and whitefish. The entrees were wonderful, tasty with a nice presentation. They came with your choice of soup or salad. I've been living in the area for many years and never noticed this hidden gem that I've drove past many times. I was driving on Walnut Lake because a car accident blocked my travels from being able to travel on Maple. I was and stopped by a red light on Walnut Lake Rd when I noticed Nonna Maria's. Made that drive many times and never noticed it before. I decided to treat myself to dinner one night. Called in my reservation and from the moment I walked into the restaurant, the customer service was top notch. They addressed me by name the entire time. The food was definitely cooked with love and was delightful with every chew. I cannot wait to visit this spot again. Being long time fans of Marias,we were shocked the other night when we took out of town relatives for what we expected to be a nice dining experience. It was anything but. The service was good,but everything went downhill from there. The air conditioning was inadequate. We had to change tables due to the heat and we watched a party of eight walk out because of it. The food was mediocre at best. The salmon was grey, the jumbo shrimp were the little shrimp from cans and very rubbery,the veal was tough and tasteless. The owner was there and we asked to see him. He never showed. All considered, it was an unpleasant experience. It was probably our last meal there until it changes...
