El Rey Burritos has developed a pretty solid reputation in the DSM area. As I love burritos this was a natural fit eventually, and I'm happy to say the food itself was good and lived up to some fairly high expectations. Overall my burrito was almost awesome, I went with beef, perhaps another meat is better? I would've liked a little more red and green sauces, but sauce was adequate and the queso was a good balance and served in abundance. I also had a couple bottles of Grapefruit flavored Jarritos soda which can be hard to find. Initially the service felt a little awkward and standoffish which was kind of weird... But I'm a big boy and can deal with it for some good food. If you're on that side of town and like Burritos do it up!

I eat cusine all over the country and sure I have not eaten at every establishment that sells a savory Mexican dish. I have ate here. The food is unique the service friendly. The EL- REY maybe one of the best burritos I've had the pleasure of eating. The chips are served with a delicious fruity and spicy salsa. The meal is always exceptional. The main meal is served with the added condiments of red or green sauce. Both sauces are not good they are GREAT. I don't know why this place isn't always on Des Moines Best of list. Because EL-REY Mexican food is one of the best.

El Rey has great tender asada which is different than anywhere else I’ve been. My favorite is the standard tacos, they do things their own way and don’t just have the same exact stuff you’ll find at any place - so the flavors are familiar but unique. Always very fast place to eat. No complaints!

I love this place, been a hidden gem of West Des Moines for years, and their options are amazing. They serve some of the biggest burritos I have ever found in the United States, and I am pretty well traveled. If you want to try it, the Rey-Rey size burrito will have you with your eyes popping out of your head.

Everything here is authentic Mexicano recipes, cooking methods, and atmosphere. Feels like a retro sit-down right over the border, and I love it. I personally like the papas y chorizo burrito, but they have so MANY options as well aside from their burritos.

If you want a true, authentic experience, please try this place. It is worth a fifteen minute wait for your...

Restaurant is terrible. Service abysmal! Paid over 50 dollars for 2 meals. Both of us got ill shortly after eating here. Unless you speak Spanish fluently don't plan on a complicated order. Server spoke English but you couldn't understand for the most part as he spoke hushed and fast. Restaurant is inside what appears to be an old service station, which was partially renovated. Parking is difficult to understand. Part of the lot is sloping away towards an apartment complex behind the property. Part of the lot is covered in front (assumed to be what was the gas island originally), and nothing is marked well as to...
