This is going to be long, but I encourage you to read it fully, as I have never had a more negative experience in food service like the one I encountered last night. Apparently, this never happens to the restaurant and my taste buds are wrong ( I was actually told this by the owner).
My husband placed a pickup order online on Toast from this place. First he mistakenly ordered Chicken Tikka instead of Chicken Tikka Masala but tried to eat it anyway. It was $23.23 for that meal with rice and bread. The meat was under seasoned and oddly textured, it didn’t even really taste like it spent the right amount of time marinating or something. the only thing that tasted good in the first order was the bread he ordered. He ate about three bites total, one of his rice his bread and one of the meat. I also tried it and It was unsatisfactory at absolute best, inedible at worst.
My husband was still hungry since he didn’t even eat, so he tried to order the correct thing from that same place. So he ordered chicken tikka masala ($16.96). When he went to get it and brought it home, I was honestly shocked. The curry was somehow both over seasoned with cardamom but devoid of other curry tastes I love. My husband took a spoonful, told me he couldn’t eat it, and then I tried it and oh my gosh. It was grainy and chalky somehow, the taste itself was so bad and the cream tasted like it was spoiled or off or something. I was obviously unsatisfied and at this point wanted my money back.
First, My friend and I went inside the restaurant and explained the situation. I was told by the cashier that the order was placed on Toast online and that I needed to contact the company for a refund. He was pretty dismissive of me. I asked him numerous times for a number to call, and he told me to look online. I showed him the uneaten food. Nothing. So my friend took a photo of us throwing the entirely uneaten food away, and we left to get food from Nalaan.
When I do go to their site, Of course Toast’s website informs me I have to contact the restaurant for a refund. So I call. The guy at the register gives me the exact same spiel, says I can’t get a refund through them and have to contact toast. I told him four separate times that I was directed to contact the store directly and he continued to ignore me and stonewall me. I found myself frustrated so I hang up the phone.
I had to get a rep from Toast to help, the guy then told me I had to wait until 8am to contact the owner. The representative was amazing and helped me call the owner himself. This is where things get actually wild.
This man told me that he has owned a business for 20 years. He makes 30 orders a day and nobody ever complains. He said that if I didn’t like his food, “there is something wrong with my tongue”. He used some analogy about how he’s had Pepsi before, it tasted one way. One day it tasted different. That’s not Pepsi’s fault, they won’t give me a refund” ????? I mean what? Then he told me that you “can’t buy a Pepsi and return it because you didn’t like it”. He insisted that the food had already been made so he essentially lost the money it cost to make it, so he won’t return our money. The only solution offered was if we went in and ordered something else, at a different time of day -when he was there-, he wouldn’t charge us. I don’t think getting more unsatisfactory food is a solution, coming again is inconvenient. He insisted it was a waste of money for him to refund me, but somehow would make me more food and not charge me. That still impacts food costs so what? when I explained I can’t afford to waste $40 on food I didn’t eat, he said it was my problem and held firm I won’t get a refund at all.
I have never in my life dealt with something like this. I am contacting my bank to dispute the charge, and I will win. It’s just crazy to me that he would rather his customer leave unsatisfied and put out a bad product. I leave reviews because I like to support businesses, but this is to warn...
Read moreI have been to this restaurant multiple times and the experience has not been good. The service is not good because the staff are rude to you. Also, in other restaurants, the server serves you water and the water glass is not made up of plastic. In this restaurant, there is a tank next to the cash register and you have to get your own water instead of the server filling up the water for you. The height of the water glass is not that much at all. The restaurant does not maintain hygiene at all. This can be proven because I have seen the floors be very dirty multiple times. The food is also not good at all. I have tried the Chhole (Chana Masala) and Paneer. The Chana Masala is filled with more water and less chickpeas and it has too much water put in it that it becomes more liquid. Please consider putting less water and more chickpeas to make it an indian type taste. When you order rice with the Chhole, it is being charged extra money. The rice should be complimentary like other indian restaurants. The paneer has more cream than necessary which is not good. I have also tried the Palak Paneer and Sarson ka saag dish which is 100% good so I would recommend that dish. The breads are hard. The price of the items are also very high compared to the Indian restaurants nearby. The name and rating make the restaurant attractive to come. Some of the names of the people who wrote the reviews sound fake. I have been to India 10+ times and the food is nowhere near the food served in India. The owner is rude when you talk to them. When you are an owner of the restaurant, you need to talk to the customers and treat your customers nicely. Why is getting onions, green chillis and pickle being charged 1 dollar? Those are mini sides and help the taste out. Lastly, please watch your language on...
