Grasshopper Irish Pub — Restaurant in West Milford

Unique experience. Came in solo while my daughter and her mom were having a spa date. Sat at a high top in the bar area. Couple ruckus VERY folks...paid it no mind. (That's a pub for you). Server was friendly and attentive. Beer as well as my order of fish and chips came out super fast. Was impressed at the start. Rarely eat deep fried food and the scrod was very oily so had to use the lavatory 3/4ths of the way in. Came out a few minutes later and noticed my food was gone and my table was reset. As I walk past the hostess section I hear them discussing my bill as they stated the price thinking I skimped out. Evidently they thought I left without paying. I asked the two hostesses kindly if they thought I left without paying and the young lady sarcastically said no as I'm confident she felt awkward at that moment. When I looked at my bill it was the price they were discussing, but there was no apology or "can we get you something to make up for our mistake?"... nothing. I awkwardly asked for my check and left over a 30% tip to the kind and attentive waitress as it was no fault of her own. I used to frequent here regularly and never had that experience there let alone at any restaurant. I've been there 4 times. Once we got there early-ish on a Saturday and and it was about half full. By the time we had drinks in hand and ordered it was full. We were a party of 4. One of our party had the soup. But no soup spoon, so when he finally wandered by we asked for a spoon. When he finally wandered by again we asked for a spoon. We got an excuse and a spoon. When my fish and chips came out they were room temp. And my wife's and friends casserole type pies came out they were room temp on the inside and and a hot crisp crust on top. I complained and they quickly ran out fresh fish and chips. Still not hot from the fryer but edible. That was a 1star visit. The other 3 times we went on Mon or Tues and I had the 12oz steak special ($13.95 with soup or salad) and my companions had burgers or steak also. And the steak is a very good NY strip. Correctly cooked. The burgers were also good.

I have seen the Grasshopper Pub for several years and finally was able to stop for a meal. What a mistake! I had the Shepards Pie which was the worst I ever had, the gray mystery meat looked like it had been through a food processor. My friend had Shrimp and Chicken Fajita with Black beans and rice. The chicken was dry, and the Black Bean were RANCID. She ate 3 beans and stopped. I tried 4 beans, and the taste shot up my sinuses with a scent of some type chemical. I guess that is what rancid black beans smell like. I mentioned this to the waitress, but she did not bring the Manager. After my 30-minute ride home tasting the Pie as I drove, I immediately ran to my bathroom. I had brought the Shepards pie home and took it outside for some animals to eat and a racoon came but avoided the mystery meat. I would avoid eating...
