I was referred to this place by one of my brothers who lives in West Orange, NJ and he was 1000% correct!! I walked in Friday evening and had the 1/2 rotisserie chicken, rice & black beans, plantain (tostones), and a slice of red velvet cake. Compliments to the chef or chefs as the food was that memorable that I went back the next morning when they opened up and treated my brother and I to Saturday brunch. The seasoning and juiciness of the chicken was phenomenal, white rice and black beans was hot and mixed together incredibly and the plantains were excellently cooked. The slice of red velvet cake was so soft and whomever baked it deserves to be on TV in a baking competition! Seriously!!! There are times when something happens once and you can say, "Okay, wow - this was good!" To have a repeat of the delicious food and awesome customer service from the employee behind the counter, let's you know the business is built on satisfaction! (I wish I had gotten the name of the guy who took my order both times because he was totally professional and exuded such a chill vibe)! Told my wife and daughter, when we come back to NJ, we are going to Pepe's BBQ!!!!!

I'm in town staying at a hotel nearby and was looking for something unique and local for carryout. I made the right choice. I ordered the arroz chaufa with chicken, which is like a Peruvian fried rice, and a cheese empanada. The portion was much bigger than I expected for the price, with a lot of juicy chicken and a ton of flavor. I don't know what the creamy green cilantro (?) sauce is that they included, but I would drink it from a bucket. I couldn't even get a picture of the empanada because I ate it too fast, but it was soft and crispy and not greasy at all. The place is really small and appears to do most of their business through carry-out and delivery so only has a few counter seats. I wouldn't go for dine-in with more than two people. But everyone was really friendly and efficient and I was in and out very quickly. I highly recommend.

Idk what In the world compelled me to order from this spot. I was feeling some bbq ribs & decided why not…. I just got my food 5 minutes ago & I kid you not, the beef ribs are inedible. They are unbelievable hard, you can’t even chew! No flavor! Chard! Horrible ribs!! I can’t believe I spent $70 on this crap. I’m not the type to leave reviews like this but damn this is the absolute worst! I’m staring at the meat right now with dissatisfaction & disappointment… never ordering from here again! For those who read reviews don’t play yourself & order somewhere else. These ribs are the worst I’ve ever had.

Went last week Thursday, October 17 th 2024 to order food .placed my order and about minutes later a lady who seems to be the manager comes over and ask, if I am being served. I replied that I've already paid. She then proceeded over to an area (seemed like. She was looking for my order ) i told her. I had orderedabout 2 minutes ago. Someone else told me. The order we'll be ready in 10 minutes. So I went outside and he came back in about 15 mins , gave the first lady. My receipt she looked me dead in the eyes and said( very affirmatively ) "i already give you your order" my immediate response was No ! You did not !! Why would do such . . She said she has to look over the camera. Because these things do happen and it's company's policy. After much back-and-forth with them and I she came back and said that cameras were having problems. I wanted my money back. But they would not.. Ask for the manager's number. They would not give me she said she is. Ask for the owner's number they would not give me. After about fifty minutes they eventually give me my food which I did not wanted anyway. The same lady took my number saying someone would call me back within two hours. After all the back and forth and the embarrassment ,upon leaving they told me to ' have a nice day" It was a very embarrassing experience. My only conclusion is .. maybe the way I looked . construction attire , a member of one of the largest construction unions in new york city, an African American businesses ower . Sorry but everything that went on who leads me to believe what I believe. Someone call me back and say this sorry.Give me the michigan , give someone else my food.( the same scenario continues , I guess all african american look alike. They said the next time I go there.I will get a discoun Sorry.I would not be going back there anytime soon After all that the ribs was very dry...

Hmm. I've just started going to Pepe's in West Orange about 6 months ago, though I've known of the place in West Orange for about 3 years now I guess, as I frequent the Chinese place next to it.

Anyway, as mentioned I finally tried it about 6 months ago, and have held off writing a review of it until I had eaten there at least 8-10 times. Not sure about the a couple reviews below, but the food has/is excellent there, I mean absolutely delicious, made home style. Granted, I've only had the Pork & Beef Ribs, Saltado(s), Garlic shrimp, & Arroz Chaufa - they offer more, but everything I have had there was very good.

Never had a problem with portion size, etc. Actually, it's quite a value - especially $19 large rib order with a choice of 2 sides... it's a full 2 meals, at least. So you get 2 home made delicious Peruvian BBQ meals for $10 a piece. Not sure how one goes wrong in that scenario. No, I don't work for the place or am I the owner or related to them... I only make mention of that because I realize my review is contrary to a handful listed here. I don't know, I recommend to my friends... all I...
