New ownership of an old favorite, now featuring Italian & American classics. The owners & staff are super friendly & extremely nice. They were having Internet troubles on my visit, which shut down any electronic transactions (payment cards/Tap & Pay), but there's a 7-11 next door with an ATM, so no harm, no foul.
My wife & I stopped by for lunch today, and neither of us were very hungry, so we both ordered 2 English Hotdogs w/everything (that comes with fries), a side of fried mushrooms, & 2 medium colas. Total for the order was $27.51. VERY expensive, considering nothing was outstanding or homemade. Coleslaw was definitely food service variety. The hotdog chili wasn't bad at all. Overall, I'd rate the hotdogs 7.5 out of 10. The fries were frozen, and that's okay, but just a little overcooked for my taste. The fried mushrooms were of the breaded variety (I prefer batter dipped), but still tasty, however, there were only about 8 in the order. They serve fountain soft drinks and still use flavoring syrup if you like cherry cola.
Otherwise, not much has changed. Same old-school diner interior/exterior, same name, same decor. Still clean & tidy inside. It was in the mid-90's today, and it was obvious the A/C was struggling to keep the inside cool. Actually, it was kind of warm. Almost too warm. I don't think it's been under new ownership very long, so I'm willing to overlook some of the imperfections of getting a new place up & running, especially in a location that's existed quite a while.
I'm looking forward to returning hungry & sampling their Italian offerings. Overall, I'm disappointed in the price point for the food we ordered. A similar meal at a place that specializes in hotdogs & other fast food would have come in under $20. Including tip, this meal set us back $32.51. I like this place, and I'm really pulling for the new owners to make a go of it. I think more than a few people are going to be sticker shocked on lunch...
Read moreWe were looking for a place to have dinner in this very cold Saturday night and decided to try the "Red Line Diner." It was a great decision. We read the reviews before visiting the restaurant, but our experience there was even better than we expected. Our hostess, this young lady named Dyamond (yes, with a "y), was extremely kind and always checked on us. Their tea was freshly brewed, and she kept refilling our glasses. The food was marvelous as well. If you like melted cheese, the cheese ravioli may make you very happy. 🙂 Our pastas came with salads and toast. I also loved the 50ish, 60ish style decoration. Another thing that truly got my attention was the great music videos being played on their TV. The 90s and early 2000's R&B songs (everything from Mary J. Blige and Mariah Carey to Faith Evans and Leela James) made the night even more special. The music selection truly made me feel like I was having dinner in one of those wonderful diners in New Jersey. Dyamond was the one responsible for the music selection. Thumbs up, young lady! We are definitely coming back because food is not all when one goes out for dinner. It is also about the service and the atmosphere. And, folks, this...
Read moreCute little diner and very friendly, helpful server. Great food. I love that you can "make it a combo" for $2.99 which adds a big serving of piping hot crinkle cut fries and a drink of your choice. Everything was so delicious. The house ranch is THE BEST. Our bill was $42 for 2 sandwich combos and an appetizer. (BEWARE: The bacon Cheeseburger currently comes with TURKEY bacon but could change anytime so ask.)
The place was almost empty inside. Very quiet diner if you want to relax in peace and stillness. But for me it was Too quiet inside. I wish the barely audible music was a little louder so our conversion was less on-blast to the one and only silent couple next to us. Love that it was 80's music and would've liked to "get into the groove" a little louder 😉
If you're into art the server displays a great big tattoo on her stomach under her fishnet shirt. If joke art is more your thing, there is a wall hanging of a friendly ghost cartoon that says "I'm too old for this sheet".
This diner is located right across the street from the Mediterranean...
