As 30 yr Westborough residents, we've visited this ice cream stand for decades. However, based on our recent experience, we will surely never return. My husband and I visited around 3.30 PM yesterday. I purchased my usual frozen yogurt, which disappointedly had a lot of ice crystals (probably from sitting around for too long) and some green and orange debris which did not belong, necessitating an exchange. It was pouring rain, and there was not a single other customer in the lot. To avoid me getting drenched, my husband pulled our car close to the window while he remained in the driver's seat, so that I could do a quick exchange. Instead of assisting, the employee at the window became immediately and irrationally livid. Despite our explanation that we would move the car immediately after the quick exchange, the employee continued to not only be obnoxious and aggressive but threatened to call the police over this minor, weather-justified action. When I called back a few minutes later to speak to the owner, the employee hung up on me. This level of unprovoked hostility, aggression, and disproportionate overreaction is completely unacceptable for any business. I have formally emailed management and sincerely hope that they address this behavior, as it has unequivocally ruined our decades long relationship with this local business.
Update: I initially posted a review detailing the employee's unprovoked hostility and threat to call the police over a minor, weather-justified car placement in a completely empty lot.
The owner's public response is a complete fabrication designed to protect the business. The owner falsely claims the employee offered assistance and that I was "acting erratically"--neither of which is true. Also the icecream had obvious and visible ice crystals and green and orange specks which were not sprinkles but things that clearly didn't belong there. This management team has resorted to lies and fabrication rather than apologizing for their employee's egregious behavior. Because the owner has chosen this path of denial and falsehood, I will not engage in further debate and seek resolution through appropriate...
Read moreI don't usually leave reviews, but I felt I needed to share the appalling experience I had at Uhlman's. I went here with a few of my friends tonight, we were a party of four teenage girls. It was close to closing and we decided to eat the ice cream in our car. It was around 9:20 when we decided to head out, but right before my friend went to use the restroom. While we were waiting for our friend, a man pulled up in a truck. Immediately he begins yelling at us (4 teenage girls). "Get the hell out," "the police will be here in 5 seconds," "I'm getting your plate numbers," "tell your friend to hurry the hell up in the bathroom." These were just a few of the phrases that were yelled at us. We tried to explain that we were just leaving and just waiting for our friend to come out of the restroom. However, the grown man was too impatient and hot-headed to even try to listen. He continued to yell and yell until we reached our cars. Even then, he took out his camera to take unsolicited pictures of minors and our cars. If we had been asked kindly to leave, we would have (and there would be no need to leave a review!). However, it is incredibly unprofessional to have an old man try to attack, harass, and threaten kids. After reading some of the one-star reviews for Uhlman's, it seems like others have had similar experiences with the same man, who seems to be an owner. The responses back are disgusting-- invalidating customer experiences, attacking customers, etc. I would not be surprised if the owner, instead of taking accountability, somehow finds a way to make this 4 teenage girl's faults in the response. I certainly will not be returning, and I will continue to tell others not to. No minor should ever be talked to in the way that grown man talked to me and my 3 friends. If you ever have the displeasure of running into the owners of Uhlman's, I...
Read moreWhenever I'm in the area I make sure to get Uhlmans with my family. I usually have a great experience, but sadly today a couple things were off.
I ordered a banana split with central gram, strawberry cheesecake, and moose tracks ice cream. I began eating it and didn't notice anything at first, but then wondered where this sour acid taste was coming from. With my spoon I picked up one of the fresh strawberry toppings and quickly noticed something was off- it was producing numerous bubbles that my husband and I could hear pop and sizzle when put near our ears. I tried a couple more pieces just to make sure it was only the strawberries that tasted sour and that was correct. I was saddened by this, but I didn't want to waste the ice cream, so I tried eating around the strawberry topping.
I moved on to the second scoop of ice cream and then noticed it was a completely different ice cream than I asked for. It was supposed to be moose tracks, but it was purple (maybe a black raspberry?) with I believe Oreo bits in it. Luckily I enjoyed the taste of it, but I was still a little disappointed that it wasn't Moose tracks.
We live almost an hour away from Uhlmans and I was eating my ice cream in the car on our way home. I didn't feel it was worth turning around to mention this to the staff, but I did call to inform them about the fresh strawberry topping and how it may have started to ferment.
(I quickly tried the first couple bites of my ice cream at a picnic table before moving back to our vehicle)- so that's why the photo of the banana split was...
